ii. We have offices in Canton OH, Rochford IL, Pietermaritzburg South Africa, and also in Dubai, and the United Kingdom.
iii. We specialize in the design, manufacturing, and installation of a wide range of welding machines for the mesh and grating industries, we are the world leader in automated grating welders. We also develop, design, and supply a range of axillary equipment to complement the machine range. We use pneumatics, hydraulics, and servo’s control, with the latest TwinCAT PLC/PC and VB and Unity HMI’s.
iv. We have a strong Engineering and Technical team to design and support large projects.
Your job:
i. As a commissioning technician, you will assemble, wire and test machines in the workshop, prior to shipment.
ii. You will ensure that the machine build and performance meets the contracted specification before shipment, working hand-in-hand with the engineering team to achieve this.
iii. During this process, you will perform an electrical I/O test, load or assist loading the software in the PLC, set up the drives and hydraulics where applicable, dry run the machine sequences, set the welding parameters, and run product on the machine. You will be supported by a team with a wealth of product and industry experience.
iv. Once the machine has been shipped to site, you will position and connect the modules, perform start-up checks, run the test products and train the customer operators.
v. A key component in the process is electrical system knowledge and the ability to find problems (electrical and mechanical) and fix them.
vi. You may spend up to 50% of your time travelling to visit customers and install machines. A machine installation typically takes 3-5 days, and we endeavor to have our technicians home on weekends where possible.
vii. You may need to visit customers to do machine support, upgrades and training.
viii. Your feedback in design reviews and input in new designs will be valuable.

3. Liaises with:
3.1. Internal: Managers and colleagues.
External: Customers.
4.Qualification and Experience:
4.1. Trade Tested: Electrician, Fitter or Millwright. Or
4.2. Solid understanding and experience in electrical and mechanical fault-finding on machinery and control systems.
4.3. Solid understanding and experience in machine setup, installation and commissioning.
4.4. Solid understanding of mechanical assembly and panel/machine wiring.
4.5. Ability to read mechanical and electrical part drawings, assembly drawings and wiring diagrams.
4.6. Understanding of automation principles including PLC systems, Scada systems, fieldbus systems, electrical control systems.
4.7. Excellent computer literacy / competency.
4.8. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
5.Primary Objectives/responsibilities/Key Performance area:
5.1. Assembly and wiring of machines per specifications.
5.1.1. Prepare kitting areas and receive parts kits and assembly drawings.
5.1.2. Assembly machines mechanically and or conduct electrical wiring as per detailed drawings / schematics.
5.1.3. Setup and prepare machinery for the commissioning phase, during the assembly phase.
5.1.4. Investigate problems if parts don’t fit and follow the relevant corrective action procedure.
5.2. Testing and Commissioning of machinery.
5.2.1. Thorough and professional testing / commissioning of machinery in accordance with quality standards, engineering and sales specifications.
5.2.2. Prototype and bench testing of equipment/machinery/mechanisms and compiling of technical reports where required.
5.2.3. Power up, machine setup and running of machinery at Clifford and on client sites.
5.2.4. Ensure that the machine and test products confirm to the required standards and terms of sale / contract before shipment.
5.2.5. The sales contract/order confirmation, sales releases and relevant quality documents such as checklists are key documents to ensure quality of supply to clients.
5.2.6. Stripping/dismantling/loading onto trucks or into containers, and re-assembly of machinery on client’s site.
5.2.7. Site installations which could include supervising offloading, placement of equipment, assembly commissioning, operator training and machine handover and sign-off.
5.3. Servicing, Support and repair of machinery.
5.3.1. Provide technical support to clients as required.
6.Secondary Objectives/responsibilities:
6.1. Upkeep of tools and equipment.
6.2. Technical documentation must be updated.
7.Working Environment:
This position requires local and international travel for up to 3 months at a time.
7.1. Hands on assembly and dismantling of machinery.
7.2. Ability to work under pressure.
7.3. Working hours may be irregular.
7.4. The ability to remain calm and professional under all circumstances.
7.5. Excellent communication skills, team player and ability to work alone as required.
