Job summary

MasTec is seeking a Commissioning Tech I to join our team in US-OH-Kenton. You will perform mechanical and electrical inspections, conduct commissioning tests, and document results while coordinating with the Commissioning CM/GF. This role supports PV power plant projects and requires safe, accurate field work.

Responsibilities include completing inspection docs, assisting with data entry, and liaising with team members to resolve issues. OSHA/NFPA 70E certification is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Classroom education or training in photovoltaic systems.
  • Photovoltaic installation experience.
  • One year of electrical experience required.
  • OSHA 10-hour, First Aid/CPR, NFPA 70E certifications preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical single-line diagrams.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with PV plant inspections to construction specs.
  • Complete commissioning documentation during inspection.
  • Document outstanding issues and deliver clear reports.
  • Assist field data entry for test results.
  • Perform final visual and mechanical inspections before energization.
  • Support third-party testing and inspections (MV tests, etc.).
  • Ensure PPE use and safety procedures are followed.
  • Keep testing equipment clean and calibrated.
  • Report missing/broken equipment and low supplies.
  • Collaborate with other Techs to ensure quality.

Job description

Commissioning Tech I

Location: US-OH-Kenton

Overview

Responsible for working within a team to perform required system inspections on utility PV power plants. Perform mechanical/electrical inspections and commissioning testing. Document all inspections, observations, and test results. Communicate inspections, observations, and test results with Commissioning CM/GF. Document and assist with PV system troubleshooting and corrective actions.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the inspection of PV plants to specifications of construction documents
  • Complete all commissioning documentation during inspection
  • Document all outstanding issues and deliver all documentation in a neat and orderly manner for review by the CX CM/GF
  • Assist Commissioning CM/GF with field test data entry as needed
  • Perform final visual and mechanical inspections on equipment before energization date
  • Support third party testing and inspections. (Transformers, MV audits, MV cable tests, etc.)
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and conformity to safety procedures by all employees
  • Keep testing equipment clean and orderly at all times. Ensure calibration is up to date.
  • Report any missing or broken equipment to CX CM/GF and inform them when consumable supplies are low
  • Care for and maintain all issued PPE in accordance with manufacturer's specifications
  • Work together with other Techs ensuring quality of work and adherence to all safety procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to complete tasks with minimal oversight
  • Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward the MasTec's Zero Injury principles
  • Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams
  • Ability to use a multi-meter
  • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
  • Be able to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards
  • The work environment at the jobsite involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
