Leap29 is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager for Solar & BESS projects, leading the commissioning phase to ensure systems are installed, tested and fully operational in line with project specs and industry standards.

You will manage planning, testing, QA/QC, and handover while coordinating with project teams, contractors and clients, with a strong focus on safety, quality and schedule on site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Energy Management or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years' experience in commissioning management within the energy sector.
  • Proven experience delivering commissioning activities on renewable energy projects.
  • Working knowledge of NERC/FERC compliance and ERCOT protocols.
  • NFPA 70E and OSHA 30 certification.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience of LOTO procedures and implementation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of energy systems, equipment and relevant industry standards.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex commissioning projects through to operational handover and COD.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily Commissioning Plan of the Day meetings and coordinate commissioning priorities and activities.
  • Prepare and deliver high-level project reports covering commissioning progress, risks, issues and milestones.
  • Plan and oversee performance, functional and reliability testing to confirm design specifications.
  • Maintain comprehensive commissioning records and safety compliance.

Job description

Leap29 is currently recruiting for an experienced Commissioning Manager on behalf of a company who have a strong pipeline of Solar & BESS projects across Texas.

The role will lead the commissioning phase of Solar projects, ensuring all systems and equipment are installed, tested, commissioned and fully operational in line with project specifications, contractual requirements and industry standards.

This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take overall responsibility for the execution of commissioning activities on assigned projects, reporting to the Project Manager and ensuring delivery against agreed schedules and budgets.
  • Review contractual commissioning requirements and develop project specific commissioning plans and strategies.
  • Review engineering designs, specifications, drawings and test plans to identify potential issues and minimise field changes during commissioning.
  • Develop, implement and manage detailed commissioning plans, procedures, schedules and methodologies.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of commissioning templates, testing procedures and QA/QC documentation.
  • Lead the end-to-end commissioning process, from planning and preparation through to testing, validation and final handover.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities across project teams, contractors, vendors and third-party testing organisations to ensure efficient and timely delivery.
  • Support the identification, appointment and management of third party testing agencies required to complete specialist commissioning activities.
  • Act as the primary authorised employee for the project's commissioning safe-work programme and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Lead daily Commissioning Plan of the Day meetings and coordinate commissioning priorities and activities.
  • Manage commissioning activities independently on construction sites, maintaining a strong focus on Safety, Quality and Schedule.
  • Prepare and deliver high-level project reports covering commissioning progress, risks, issues, milestones and overall project status.
  • Translate complex technical issues, testing results and remediation plans into clear reports and updates for senior management and client stakeholders.
  • Lead commissioning activities required to achieve compliance with ERCOT procedures and requirements through to COD.
  • Plan and oversee performance, functional and reliability testing to confirm that energy systems meet design specifications and operational requirements.
  • Support the training of end users and operations teams on the safe and effective operation and maintenance of commissioned systems.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate commissioning records, including equipment information, test results, maintenance requirements and performance data.
  • Identify, investigate and resolve commissioning issues, defects and discrepancies, coordinating corrective actions with relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with applicable safety regulations, industry standards, project specifications and environmental requirements.
  • Prepare, review and present commissioning reports, test documentation and final handover documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance and commissioning expertise to project teams, contractors and clients.
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve commissioning processes, procedures and methodologies.
  • Ensure all personnel comply with site safety requirements, PPE standards and established safe working procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Energy Management or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years' experience in commissioning management within the energy sector.
  • Proven experience delivering commissioning activities on renewable energy projects.

  • Professional certification in commissioning, engineering or energy management would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory, environmental and safety requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities, contractors and stakeholders within a fast-paced project environment.
  • Proficiency with commissioning management software, reporting tools and relevant technical systems.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
  • A strong commitment to maintaining the highest standards of health & safety, quality and project delivery.
