Job summary

Spencer Ogden seeks a Commissioning Engineer to support utility-scale Solar and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects across the United States. This position offers potential to convert to a full-time role.

You will lead commissioning from construction through commercial operation, develop testing procedures, and coordinate with multiple teams, including contractors and controls engineers. 100% travel is required.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of commissioning experience in utility-scale solar projects.
• Hands-on BESS commissioning experience is required.
• Approximately 1–2 years of SCADA experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems and troubleshooting.
• Ability to lead commissioning and coordinate with contractors and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning activities from construction through commercial operation and handover.
• Develop and execute commissioning plans, schedules, and testing procedures.
• Coordinate with construction managers, contractors, automation teams, and controls engineers.
• Perform commissioning and acceptance testing for project communications, networking, and control systems.

Are you looking to take the next step in your renewable energy career? We're seeking a Commissioning Engineer to support utility-scale Solar and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects across the United States. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing team working on cutting-edge renewable energy projects with the potential to convert to a full-time position.

Travel Requirement: This role requires 100% travel, moving from project to project on a monthly basis. Daily GSA per diem is provided based on project location.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Lead commissioning activities from construction through commercial operation and project handover.
• Develop and execute commissioning plans, schedules, and testing procedures.
• Coordinate with construction managers, contractors, automation teams, controls engineers, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
• Perform commissioning and acceptance testing for:
• Project communications, networking, and control systems
• Electrical balance of plant systems including relays, metering, HVAC, fire suppression, and electrical equipment
• Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
• Execute utility, off-taker, and electricity market qualification testing.
• Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues to ensure successful project completion.
• Support safe, efficient, and on-time project delivery.

What We’re Looking For:

2–3 years of commissioning experience within utility-scale solar projects

Hands-on BESS commissioning experience (required)

Approximately 1–2 years of SCADA experience, ideally supporting commissioning activities

Strong electrical systems knowledge and troubleshooting skills

Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders on complex field projects

Ability to lead commissioning efforts and manage contractors in the field

Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Engineering degree strongly preferred, but equivalent industry experience will be considered
