Their reputation is highly safety and quality focused with an emphasis in internal employee satisfaction and they are committed to delivering state-of-the-art infrastructure for high-demand, mission-critical environments.

Were looking for an experienced Commissioning Manager to oversee MEP commissioning for data center projects. This role is central to ensuring safety, quality, and performance in complex building systems by managing on-site activities, coordinating subcontractors, and delivering results that align with project goals and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Commissioning Leadership

  • Lead all phases of MEP system commissioning from Level 0 to Level 5.
  • Coordinate daily on-site activities, ensuring alignment with safety standards and overall project plans.
  • Provide direction to field personnel while maintaining OSHA compliance.
  • Document progress, escalate issues promptly, and collaborate with the Project Manager to drive solutions.

Field Oversight & Subcontractor Management

  • Supervise subcontractor teams, ensuring clear communication, accountability, and consistent quality.
  • Support sequencing, materials coordination, and workforce planning with guidance from the General Superintendent.
  • Maintain accurate, accessible records of job site activities and subcontractor performance.

Technical & System Expertise

  • Interpret and apply project specifications to ensure accurate installation of MEP and building automation systems.
  • Resolve technical challenges swiftly during installation and commissioning.
  • Keep current with relevant technologies and evolving industry codes (e.g., ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA).

Project Scheduling & Coordination

  • Develop and manage startup and commissioning schedules.
  • Collaborate with project leadership to build and maintain the Baseline Schedule.
  • Provide timely updates, including two-week lookahead reports, to ensure consistent progress tracking.

Safety Program Implementation

  • Lead site safety efforts and ensure compliance with project-specific safety plans.
  • Conduct regular inspections and enforce participation in pre-construction safety meetings.
  • Monitor safety data and adjust staffing/resources to support a safe work environment.

Quality Assurance & Control

  • Implement quality control processes for MEP systems throughout all commissioning phases.
  • Ensure inspections, benchmarks, and system tests are conducted, approved, and documented.
  • Oversee validation of components and system interconnectivity with DDC controls.

Meetings & Communication

  • Represent commissioning operations in project turnover, foreman, schedule, and safety meetings.
  • Participate in closeout and owner training sessions.
  • Keep stakeholders informed on progress and issues.

Documentation & Administrative Tasks

  • Complete daily logs, track key site activities, and manage documentation per project standards.
  • Monitor material deliveries and uphold standards for quality and accuracy.
  • Maintain current drawing and revision logs and ensure subcontractor alignment.

Project Closeout

  • Manage final commissioning steps including punch list, training, and system turnover.
  • Ensure thorough and efficient subcontractor closeout procedures.

What Were Looking For

  • Bachelors degree in construction, engineering, or related fieldor equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in MEP installation, commissioning, and systems integration.
  • Deep technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
  • Familiarity with BIM tools and experience using them for system coordination.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to train, mentor, and guide teams.
  • Effective communicator who thrives under pressure and adapts to change.
  • Skilled at balancing field realities with project timelines, budgets, and client goals.
  • Organized, decisive, and collaborative, with the judgment to escalate when needed.
