Traveling Solar Commissioning Technician
Remote (Candidates Located in Arkansas, Missouri, or Kentucky Preferred)
THREE WEEKS ON SITE & FOUR SCHEDULED DAYS OFF - National Travel
PAY: $70,000-$75,000 Base Salary + Benefits
We are seeking a Traveling Solar Commissioning Technician to support utility-scale solar projects across the United States. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically skilled professional with experience in solar commissioning, electrical troubleshooting, or control systems who enjoys working in the field and traveling to project sites nationwide.
Location Preference: Candidates based in Arkansas, Missouri, or Kentucky are strongly preferred due to their central location and ability to efficiently support project demands across the country.
Travel Schedule: Approximately 3 weeks onsite followed by 4 scheduled days off. Travel is mandatory for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform onsite inspections of commissioning component installations to ensure compliance with installation manuals and project construction drawings.
- Execute solar tracker commissioning activities including startup, configuration, functional testing, and troubleshooting.
- Diagnose and resolve issues involving tracker controllers, power supplies, sensors, and communication systems.
- Provide technical support to customers and field teams while escalating complex issues to Engineering as needed.
- Document commissioning activities, test results, equipment issues, and corrective actions on a daily basis.
- Coordinate with project teams to achieve commissioning milestones while maintaining strict safety standards.
- Support successful project turnover and system performance verification.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in utility-scale solar commissioning, electrical troubleshooting, industrial controls, or related technical environments.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, electrical diagrams, and project drawings.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to learn and utilize proprietary web-based tools and software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
- Experience explaining technical concepts to customers and field personnel.
- Programming experience with Python or C.
- Familiarity with networking and communication technologies including:
- TCP/IP
- SSH
- Modbus
- Zigbee
- 2.4 GHz Wireless Networks
- VLANs
- IPv4
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
