Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. in Houston, TX is seeking an Automation Engineer - Commissioning to support power grid projects globally. You will commission, test, troubleshoot control systems, and document designs and results, both on-site at customer locations and in the office.

The role requires a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, 2+ years of automation experience, and the ability to travel at least 60%.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline or significant experience in automation and commissioning of power control systems.
• 2+ years relevant application experience with electric power systems, industry practices, and automation/power systems.
• Good knowledge of electric power system protection and control, integration and/or automation and communications applications.
• Willing to travel domestically and internationally a minimum of 60% based on focus area.
• Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Background check results satisfactory to SEL and negative drug test results.

Responsibilities

• Commissioning, functionally testing, troubleshooting and diagnosing issues relating to control system logic, communications, I/O, and field wiring at customer locations.
• Contributing to Power System Automation designs and logic/HMI development, functional testing, and documentation.
• Completing and implementing assigned work within scope, schedule and budget with high quality and safety.
• Preparing and maintaining detailed design documents, reports, checklists, test reports, and deliverables.
