Job summary

Liberty Personnel Services, Inc. seeks a senior Protection & Controls engineer to own projects from design through commissioning in substations, BESS, and solar. You will mentor engineers and help build standards and documentation to scale the team.

The role focuses on designing, programming, and commissioning automation systems for protection, controls, and communication protocols, with hands-on work on SEL RTACs, relays, and RTACs in field deployments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience with substation or industrial automation.
• Hands-on experience with SEL relays and RTACs.
• Field commissioning experience required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.

You will be a technical authority within the Protection & Controls team, owning projects from design through commissioning, mentoring engineers, and helping build the standards and documentation that let the team scale.

The role involves designing, programming, and commissioning automation systems for substations, BESS, and solar projects, focusing on protection, controls, and communication protocols.

• Responsibilities include developing control logic for SEL RTACs, power plant controllers, SCADA, and HMI points, and leading testing and field commissioning.
• Own project scope, schedule, and quality, review deliverables, and mentor team members.
• Qualifications require a BS in Electrical Engineering, PE license, 8+ years with substation or industrial automation, hands-on experience with SEL relays and RTACs, IEC 61131-3, DNP3, Modbus, and field commissioning.
• Preferred skills encompass PPC systems for BESS or solar, ERCOT testing, IEC 61850, network troubleshooting, legacy equipment integration, and experience with other platforms like GE or ABB.
