Overview
As a Data Center Commissioning Engineer (CxE), you will support the construction and commissioning of critical infrastructure in Amazon-owned data centers, ensuring design intent is met and operations are secure and reliable.
Key Responsibilities
- Review design documents and lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT).
- Manage third‑party commissioning vendors for pre‑functional, functional, and integrated systems testing.
- Coordinate site activities across AWS engineering, capacity delivery, operations, and contractor teams.
- Audit activities for compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive weekly status reports and lessons learned.
- Escalate project issues and communicate solutions to stakeholders.
Physical Requirements
- Walk job sites in uneven terrain and work at heights.
- Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Lift or move up to 49 pounds; participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.
- Work shifts longer than eight hours, potentially overnight and on weekends.
- Perform tasks in noisy, hot, or cold environments.
Additional Job Requirements
- Ability to relocate to Charlotte/Hamlet, NC.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 80% of the year.
- Provide personal transportation for meetings and site visits (reimbursed).
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of engineering, installation, or commissioning experience of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Experience in industrial or commercial engineering, especially in data center, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years relevant discipline experience.
- Ability to review mechanical or electrical design documentation and provide feedback in line with Amazon standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reading and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
- Strong communication skills, detail oriented, highly organized, and able to maintain composure in high stress environments.
- Familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems used in critical data center operations.
- Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems based on design intent and approved equipment submittals.
Compensation
Base salary range: $116,800.00 – $160,000.00 USD annually. Additional benefits include health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
