Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Mechatronics or related discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience in commissioning, startup, field service, or systems integration.
  • Hands-on experience performing FT and IST on complex building systems.
  • Experience commissioning MEP systems (Data Centers, Power Gen, Life Sciences, Manufacturing, Water/Wastewater).
  • Travel willingness to 50% nationwide and valid US work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute commissioning activities for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) and controls systems.
  • Perform Functional Testing (FT) and Integrated Systems Testing (IST) to verify performance.
  • Support equipment startup, system validation, troubleshooting, and turnover.
  • Conduct FAT and SAT where required.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues during commissioning.
  • Review construction drawings, electrical schematics, P&IDs, sequences of operation, and commissioning documentation.
  • Work with project managers, contractors, design teams, vendors, and clients throughout the process.
  • Complete commissioning reports, test documentation, deficiency tracking, and turnover packages.
  • Train end users and facility personnel on system operation and maintenance.
  • Ensure activities comply with customer requirements, industry standards, and safety regulations.

Role Summary

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Commissioning Engineer to join their growing commissioning team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on technically challenging projects across a variety of industries, including power generation, life sciences, manufacturing, water treatment, and mission-critical data centers.

As a Commissioning Engineer, you will play a key role in the startup, testing, validation, and handover of complex building systems, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires approximately 50% travel across the United States, making it ideal for an engineer who enjoys working in the field and collaborating directly with clients and project teams.

This position offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, high-profile projects while gaining exposure to cutting-edge technologies and industry-leading commissioning practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute commissioning activities for mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and controls systems.
  • Perform Functional Testing (FT) and Integrated Systems Testing (IST) to verify system performance and compliance with project specifications.
  • Support equipment startup, system validation, troubleshooting, and final commissioning activities.
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) where required.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve electrical, mechanical, controls, and integration issues during commissioning.
  • Review construction drawings, electrical schematics, P&IDs, sequences of operation, and commissioning documentation.
  • Work closely with project managers, contractors, design teams, vendors, and clients throughout the commissioning process.
  • Complete commissioning reports, test documentation, deficiency tracking, and turnover packages.
  • Train end users and facility personnel on system operation and maintenance.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with customer requirements, industry standards, and health and safety regulations.
  • Represent our client professionally while delivering an exceptional customer experience on-site.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in commissioning, startup, field service, or systems integration.
  • Hands-on experience performing Functional Testing (FT) and Integrated Systems Testing (IST) on complex building systems.
  • Experience commissioning MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems within one or more of the following industries:
  • Data Centers
  • Power Generation
  • Life Sciences
  • Manufacturing
  • Water & Wastewater
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, controls, and building systems.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, control schematics, and commissioning documentation.
  • Experience coordinating with contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams throughout the commissioning process.
  • Familiarity with commissioning documentation platforms; experience with CXAlloy is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of FAT, SAT, startup, system validation, and project turnover processes.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% throughout the United States.
  • Valid driver's license and authorization to work in the United States.
