Location: Remote (USA)
Travel: Required (up to 75%)
Job Type: Full-Time
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to support the successful startup and operational readiness of renewable natural gas (RNG) projects across the United States. This role plays a key part in ensuring biogas facilities—focused on converting organic waste into clean energy—are commissioned safely, efficiently, and according to design specifications. The position is remote but requires regular travel to project sites throughout the U.S.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute the mechanical commissioning of RNG facilities, including anaerobic digesters, gas upgrading systems, piping, pumps, compressors, valves, and rotating equipment.
- Develop and implement commissioning plans, checklists, and schedules in alignment with project milestones.
- Oversee mechanical system pre-commissioning activities including flushing, pressure testing, equipment alignment, and mechanical integrity checks.
- Conduct functional testing of mechanical systems and ensure integration with electrical and control systems.
- Identify and resolve field issues in collaboration with engineering, construction, operations, and vendor teams.
- Review equipment installation, startup procedures, and O&M documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards during commissioning activities.
- Document and report commissioning results, punch list items, and final acceptance criteria.
- Provide support and training to site operations teams during handover and early-stage operations.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams (electrical, controls, process) to ensure seamless system integration.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent field experience).
- 5+ years of commissioning, startup, or field engineering experience—ideally in RNG, biogas, wastewater, or industrial process systems.
- Strong working knowledge of pumps, compressors, valves, piping systems, rotating equipment, and process instrumentation.
- Familiarity with anaerobic digestion, gas upgrading (e.g., membrane, PSA, water wash), or similar technologies is preferred.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work under pressure in dynamic, field-based environments.
- Understanding of P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and system schematics.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and reporting.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and external contractors.
- Comfortable with up to 75% travel to commissioning sites across the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in renewable energy, oil & gas, chemical process, or water/wastewater industries.
- OSHA 10/30 or other relevant safety training/certification.
- Proficiency with commissioning software tools or platforms.
- Experience in field QA/QC processes.
What’s Offered:
- Competitive base salary with performance-based incentives
- Full benefits package including health, dental, vision, and 401(k)
- Paid time off (PTO) and paid travel expenses
- Opportunity to be part of a mission-driven organization contributing to decarbonization and clean energy innovation
- Career growth within a fast-scaling sector of the renewable energy industry
