Job summary

ECNS GLOBAL CONSULTANTS, PLLC is seeking a Commissioning Engineer I–III to advance electrical power systems projects across multiple sites. You will lead commissioning activities, develop tests, and work with clients, vendors, and project teams to ensure safe, reliable startup and turnover.

Requires ABET‑accredited EE degree; FE preferred; 1–3 years for Engineer I, 3+ for Engineer II, 7+ for Engineer III; PE preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • FE certification: preferred (Engineer II) and PE license preferred (Engineer III).
  • Experience: Engineer I 1–3 years; Engineer II 3+ years; Engineer III 7+ years in electrical testing, commissioning or power systems.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and support commissioning, testing, startup, and turnover for electrical power systems and equipment.
  • Develop commissioning procedures, test plans, and documentation for MV/LV systems and related infrastructure.
  • Coordinate activities with clients, contractors, vendors, and project teams; manage scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Lead field testing and provide guidance to junior staff as applicable.

Compensation

$32-$89/hr, plus generous overtime opportunities. Total earnings may exceed the base pay range based on overtime worked.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute and support commissioning, testing, startup, and turnover activities for electrical power systems and equipment.
  • Develop and perform commissioning procedures, test plans, and documentation for MV/LV systems, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, and related infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient system operation.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with clients, contractors, vendors, and project teams.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and commissioning deliverables commensurate with experience level.
  • Lead field testing activities, oversee commissioning execution, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Prepare and maintain commissioning reports, test records, and project documentation.
  • Commissioning Engineer III: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and commissioning personnel, as appropriate.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) or Master's Degree (M.S.) in electrical engineering from a college/university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET)
Commissioning Engineer I
  • 1–3 years of related experience preferred.
Commissioning Engineer II
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, or power systems engineering.
  • FE certification preferred.
Commissioning Engineer III
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, startup, or power systems engineering.
  • PE license preferred.
Additional Requirements
  • Experience with commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and startup of utility, industrial, generation, transmission, distribution, or substation electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of protection and control systems, electrical equipment testing, power system operation, and commissioning best practices.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NETA, NFPA 70E, NESC, and other applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Experience with commissioning and testing of protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, SCADA systems, and associated electrical equipment is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex field issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and project teams.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to bend, crouch, climb, and work at various heights.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.
  • 100% annual travel for team meetings and business needs.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment.
