Job summary

Vertical Mechanical Group in Reston, VA is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to lead the verification and start-up of large-scale commercial HVAC and plumbing systems. You will collaborate with project teams to ensure the highest quality and performance.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field and 4+ years in MEP commissioning; BCxP/CxA/CxT/CCP certifications are a plus but not required. Travel to DMV sites up to 30–40%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC, or related field with 4+ years in MEP commissioning.
• Cx certifications preferred (BCxP, CxA, CxT, CCP) but not required.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and control systems.
• Ability to read and interpret design documents and specs.

Responsibilities

Requirements for this role include:

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC, or a construction related field AND 4+ years of experience in MEP systems commissioning, testing, or a related field.
• Commissioning Certification (BCxP, CxA, CxT, CCP, etc.) preferred, not required.
• Possess a strong understanding of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and control systems. Familiarity with diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting design documents and specifications, specifically a strong understanding of operations and controls.
• Ability to travel to different project locations, specifically in the DMV region, as required.

This position is based at our HQ in Reston, VA. This role will also require travel to work sites in the DMV area, which can be up to 30-40% of the role.
