Power your future with Qualus as a Commissioning Engineer in our Field Engineering department! The incumbent will have a strong background in planning and executing large-scale substation projects. Skilled in coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing subcontracts, and ensuring quality control, the role will oversee commissioning activities, prepare detailed documentation, and verify system integrity through visual checks and functional testing.
Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and perform work for large projects and programs.
- Define appropriate visual checks, measurements, and tests that will verify the design and construction of a substation modification is appropriate for the intended application.
- Manage subcontractors' scope of work and quality control.
- Lead meetings with owner, operation and maintenance, design and construction personnel to understand project goals and schedule to ensure commissioning is properly coordinated.
- Prepare commissioning plans, specifications, checklists, and functional test documentation based on client and company standards.
- Direct tests and measurements (whether present or not at the time of the test) and approve them before considered complete.
- Review design, equipment submittals, operation and maintenance manuals, start‑up reports, checklists.
- Perform site visits to coordinate commissioning, evaluate new and existing systems, and witness equipment start‑up and testing.
Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of direct or related experience with testing and commissioning in a utility substation environment.
- Strong facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
- Highly effective communicator with clear and concise writing and presentation skills.
- High level of attention to detail with ability to quality‑review work.
- Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Experience providing leadership to a diverse project team is a plus.
