Job summary

Caterpillar seeks a field service professional to lead onsite activities, supervise installation audits, and coordinate commissioning of generator sets and engines. You will perform diagnostics, root-cause analysis, and functional testing while ensuring safety, EHS compliance, and contractual obligations.

You will collaborate with EPCs, OEMs, and customers to drive projects to completion, prepare reports, and share technical knowledge across teams.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical education and relevant field experience.
• Hands-on experience servicing medium- or high-speed natural gas or diesel reciprocating engines.
• Commissioning experience in power generation, Oil & Gas, marine propulsion, or similar environments.
• Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes.
• Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques.
• Knowledge of problem-solving approaches, tools, and techniques.
• Knowledge of relationship management techniques.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances.
• Ability to travel up to 70–80% within the United States and Canada.
• Ability to undertake long-duration customer-site assignments spanning weeks or months.
• Successful completion of a drug screen.
• Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

• Lead onsite activities adhering to safety standards and contractual obligations.
• Provide technical supervision and installation auditing for generator sets, engines, and equipment.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute commissioning, startup, and functional testing.
• Perform diagnostics and root-cause analysis for engine, generator, and control systems.
• Support final performance testing and validate contractual performance requirements.
• Collaborate with EPC contractors, project managers, OEM partners, and customers to coordinate activities and maintain schedules.
• Prepare installation audits, commissioning reports, punch lists, test documentation, and warranty records.
• Provide technical guidance to Caterpillar personnel and customers.
• Act as Caterpillar’s onsite technical and professional representative.

Job description

• Lead onsite activities in accordance with Caterpillar safety standards, EHS requirements, technical specifications, and contractual obligations
• Provide technical supervision and installation auditing for Caterpillar G20CM34 generator sets, engines, and auxiliary equipment
• Plan, coordinate, and execute commissioning, startup, functional testing, and operational readiness activities
• Perform diagnostics, root cause analysis, calibration, and technical problem resolution for engine, generator, control, and auxiliary systems
• Support and oversee final performance testing, validate contractual performance requirements, analyze operating data, and identify corrective actions
• Collaborate with EPC contractors, project managers, OEM partners, and customer representatives to coordinate activities, resolve issues, and maintain schedules
• Prepare installation audits, commissioning reports, punch lists, test documentation, warranty records, and project status updates
• Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to Caterpillar personnel and customers
• Serve as Caterpillar’s technical representative onsite and professional representative of its values and standards

Requirements

• Engineering degree, technical diploma, marine engineering certification, or equivalent combination of technical education and relevant field experience
• Hands‑on experience servicing medium‑speed or high‑speed natural gas or diesel reciprocating engines
• Commissioning experience in power generation, Oil & Gas, marine propulsion, or similar industrial environments
• Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes
• Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques
• Knowledge of problem‑solving approaches, tools, and techniques
• Knowledge of relationship management techniques
• Ability to obtain and maintain any required customer, site, or U.S. Government security clearances
• Ability to travel up to 70–80% within the United States and Canada
• Ability to undertake long‑duration customer‑site assignments spanning several weeks or months
• Successful completion of a drug screen
