Job summary

Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI) in Washington, DC seeks a Commissioning Agent – Data Center to lead on-site commissioning for mission-critical facilities.

You will oversee field observations, testing, and the Level 1–5 commissioning process in alignment with Owner’s Project Requirements and project specs.   • Travel to project sites and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to resolve commissioning challenges.

As a Commissioning Agent – Data Center in our Washington, DC office, you will help us empower our clients to achieve energy‑efficient building solutions, preserve data, protect assets, and improve safety and operational effectiveness for mission‑critical data centers. You will work in a multi‑disciplined, cross‑trained team of commissioning professionals in a team‑oriented atmosphere. You will oversee and execute quality observations and testing in the field and implement the Level 1–5 commissioning process as defined in Owner’s Project Requirements, Basis of Design, and project specifications.

In this role, you will be responsible for resolving commissioning challenges and completing tasks assigned, including developing and implementing the Level 1–5 commissioning process delivery set forth in Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR), Basis of Design (BOD), plans, and specifications. You will oversee and execute the quality observation and testing in the field.

Expertise Of Our Most Successful Commissioning Agent
  • Minimum 5 years of commissioning experience for data center or mission‑critical facilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • General understanding of building systems across all design disciplines, with a detailed knowledge of power distribution, cooling systems, and controls preferred.
  • Understanding of applicable design codes, standards, and specification requirements, and ability to interpret them.
  • Ability to work independently without the need for oversight or mentoring.
  • Fundamental knowledge of the commissioning process and its delivery.
  • Proficiency with software programs for business and cloud‑based commissioning and construction, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, CxAlloy, Autodesk BIM360, ACCBuild, and similar.
  • Ability to travel as required by the project (75%+).
  • Willingness to become OSHA certified.
  • Valid driver’s license and state‑required vehicle insurance.
