Job summary

State of Nevada seeks a commissioned Park Ranger for Walker River State Recreation Area, with primary duties at Flying M Ranch. You’ll supervise seasonal staff, manage diverse resources, and perform fieldwork and admin tasks to ensure safe park operation.

The role includes law enforcement responsibilities, maintenance, interpretive programs, and emergency response; residency is required in provided housing near Yerington, NV. Extensive collaboration with the Park Supervisor III is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in park management or related field and one year of professional park ranger experience in park operations and maintenance; OR one year of experience as a Park Ranger I (Commissioned) in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day park operation and maintenance projects; train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned seasonal personnel; clean and maintain park buildings, grounds, offices, restrooms, and vehicles; schedule and assign personnel to collect fees, staff visitor centers, and conduct tours.
• Gather, record and audit information related to visitor use and fees; take inventory and submit supply requests; prepare activity reports on areas of responsibility; make reservations and respond to letters and telephone inquiries.
• Enforce laws and regulations including state laws, county ordinances and park rules; investigate accidents, write citations, make arrests, conduct search and rescue operations, respond to emergencies, and interact with other law enforcement agencies to preserve the peace.
• Implement the resource management plan; identify resource problems; develop solutions and initiate projects for resource preservation and rehabilitation.
• Participate in planning, developing, and conducting special events and ongoing interpretive activities such as tours, hikes, displays, exhibits, talks and visitor centers.
• Under the supervision of a Park Supervisor III, coordinate and oversee operation and maintenance of a major section of a large park with special features.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
