Job summary

Nevada Division of State Parks is seeking to fill a Park Ranger II underfill for a Park Supervisor II. The position manages Cathedral Gorge State Park and the Regional Visitor Center near Panaca, plus Beaver Dam State Park, including supervision of staff and daily operations.

The incumbent must work varied hours including holidays and weekends in all weather, and must reside in the park area. NV POST Category 1 Peace Officer Academy may be required; academy costs are paid by the agency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of professional park ranger experience OR one year as Park Ranger I (Commissioned) in Nevada State service OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and participate in day-to-day park operation and maintenance projects; train, supervise and evaluate seasonal personnel.
• Clean and maintain park buildings, grounds, offices, restrooms, and vehicles; schedule and assign personnel to collect fees, staff visitor centers, and conduct tours.
• Enforce laws and regulations; investigate accidents, write citations, make arrests, conduct search and rescue operations, respond to emergencies, and interact with other law enforcement agencies.
• Implement resource management plans; identify resource problems; develop solutions and initiate projects for resource preservation.
• Plan, develop, and conduct special events and interpretive activities to inform park visitors about park attractions and environment.
• Perform the full range of duties as Park Ranger II under supervision; this is the journey level in the series.

Education

Bachelor's degree in park management, outdoor recreation management, ecology, forestry, biology, agriculture, education, natural or environmental sciences, horticulture, history/folklore, wildlife management, museum management, park interpretation, business or public administration, criminal justice, or related field

One year of professional park ranger experience in park operations and maintenance

One year of experience as a Park Ranger I (Commissioned) in Nevada State service
