Job summary

IFG Companies offers an Underwriter Trainee program designed for recent graduates and early-career professionals. You will gain hands-on experience in commercial underwriting across GL, Excess, and Inland Marine, while working with mentors to build skills in risk assessment, pricing and broker partnerships.

The program combines formal curriculum with real-world application and aims to transition you into a full production underwriting role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in insurance, risk management, economics, actuarial science or related fields.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Copilot).
• Industry-related internship or work experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership and teamwork in academic, extracurricular or work settings.

Responsibilities

• Complete a structured underwriting curriculum covering GL, Excess and IM.
• Attend training sessions and complete assignments and assessments.
• Coordinate with mentors for on-the-job exposure in account management.
• Develop knowledge benchmarks in underwriting, risk assessment, pricing and broker relationships.
• Support underwriters in creating solutions for small and middle-market clients.
• Participate in coaching to prepare for transition into a full underwriting role.
• Perform other duties as requested.
