Job summary

Carter Bankshares seeks a Commercial Underwriter to perform foundational credit analysis on standard to moderate C&I and Investment Real Estate relationships, typically up to $5 million in exposure. You will complete financial spreads, assess repayment capacity, and prepare memorandums with guidance from senior staff.

You will interact with lenders and executives, support loan committee discussions, and contribute to ongoing process improvements while maintaining regulatory awareness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting and/or Economics with sufficient credits in Accounting.
• Prior commercial credit analysis or underwriting experience with C&I and/or Investment Real Estate exposure preferred.
• Formal credit training is a plus (e.g., RMA Credit Essentials or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Underwrites commercial loan relationships in C&I and Investment Real Estate per policy guidelines.
• Completes financial spreads of financial statements and analyzes cash flow, DSC, and liquidity ratios.
• Evaluates repayment capacity, collateral, and guarantor support; notes policy exceptions.
• Prepares Credit Action Memorandums with findings and recommendations for approval or declination.
• Interacts with clients and bank staff; supports loan committee discussions as needed.
