Job description

Insurance Placement Solutions has an immediate opening for a Remote Commercial Underwriter with our client. As a member of our client’s underwriting team, you will utilize your expertise in middle market underwriting to handle renewals and assess risk in the construction sector. This role focuses on multi-line underwriting for accounts ranging from $250K to $500K in premium.

Commercial Underwriter Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage middle-market commercial accounts within the $250K to $500K premium range.
• Focus on underwriting General Contractors, street and road construction, large HVAC, plumbing, and other heavy contractor risks.
• Assess and evaluate multi-line exposures, including Workers’ Compensation, Auto, General Liability, and Umbrella (Property is least important).
• Apply guarantee cost underwriting principles to determine risk acceptability and pricing.
• Review policy renewals and ensure underwriting decisions align with company guidelines.
• Utilize underwriting systems such as ImageRight to access and analyze policy documents.
• Work with Excel-based tools to manage underwriting data and assessments.

Experience

• Middle Market underwriting experience in commercial standard lines.
• Strong construction underwriting experience (General Contractors required).
• Experience handling multi-line policies, particularly Workers’ Compensation, Auto, General Liability, and Umbrella.
• Familiarity with underwriting in Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana preferred, but candidates with strong experience can learn state-specific nuances.
• Guarantee cost underwriting experience required.
• Experience in manufacturing underwriting is a plus.
• Guidewire system experience is a plus.

Education

• A bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field is preferred.
