Job summary

The Jonus Group is seeking a Commercial Surety Underwriting Regional Manager/Sr. Manager in Los Angeles, CA, to lead a high-performing team with in-office and travel within the territory.

You will oversee underwriting decisions, risk assessment, pricing, and relationships with internal and external stakeholders, delivering exceptional client service while coaching the team to meet objectives and maintain company standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (Finance/Accounting preferred).
• Progression toward relevant certifications is a plus (AFSB, CPA, RPLU).
• 9+ years of underwriting experience with at least 4 years in management.
• Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret business reports to support underwriting decisions.
• Oversee risk selection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability for the branch.
• Assess risk quality in line with company guidelines and standards.
• Review underwriting decisions and advise on extending surety credit terms.
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Deliver excellent customer service and ensure clear communication across levels.

Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Surety Underwriting Regional Manager/Sr. Manager to lead a team. This role involves a combination of in-office responsibilities and travel within the assigned territory. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in underwriting, risk assessment, and team leadership, along with a proven ability to build and maintain strategic relationships.

• Analyze and interpret business reports, including credit checks, bank agreements, and financial statements, to support underwriting decisions.
• Oversee risk selection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability for the branch office.
• Assess risk quality in alignment with company guidelines and standards.
• Review underwriting decisions and provide recommendations for extending surety credit, including terms and conditions.
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
• Field of Study: Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 9+ years of related experience in underwriting or a similar field.
  • At least 4 years of management experience.
  • Progression toward certifications in relevant areas is preferred. Certifications may include:
    • Associate in Surety and Fidelity Bonding (AFSB)
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
    • Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU)
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
