Munich Re Specialty - North America is seeking a results-driven Head of Commercial Surety to lead underwriting, risk management, and portfolio growth for the commercial surety line.

You will own P/L responsibilities, build broker relationships, and collaborate with regional offices to drive profitable results while maintaining disciplined risk controls.

The role offers significant autonomy with broad underwriting authority and opportunity to shape strategic decisions across multiple locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in commercial surety.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with strong marketing, negotiating, and communication skills.
• Proven ability to build relationships with agents/brokers.
• Strategic thinker with tactical execution.
• Excellent communication to energize brokers, clients and colleagues.
• Ability to present and negotiate complex commercial surety agreements.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a strategic plan to expand the commercial surety portfolio with P/L ownership.
• Establish and maintain key surety broker relationships across regions.
• Develop risk and portfolio management tools to meet department goals.
• Underwrite referrals and manage annual renewals and bond requests.
• Evaluate bond forms, contracts to assess risk.
• Coordinate with home office and reinsurers on joint ventures.
