Job description

Zurich North America is hiring a Commercial Surety Claims Manager to join our team! We are open to hiring talent in anywhere in the US remotely.

Role Overview: Leads and directs a team of technical commercial surety Claims Professionals to ensure accurate and timely resolution of claims in highly complex lines of business. Serves as a subject matter expert to the underwriting team regarding product developments or enhancements, providing support and guidance to ensure compliance with regulatory policies. Coordinates team activities, manages performance, and fosters employee development and operational improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Drive superior claims results through technical guidance and tracking of key metrics for high-exposure, complex claims.
  2. Build and maintain relationships with internal colleagues, external customers, and brokers to achieve customer satisfaction targets.
  3. Review claims files to identify trends and recommend improvements, contributing to best practices.
  4. Implement Claims Best Practices to manage loss payments and claim expenses effectively.
  5. Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal control requirements.
  6. Collaborate with business units to provide claims insights for product development and customer/broker stewardship.
  7. Share industry trend information and major claim issues with underwriting and expertise centers.
  8. Partner with underwriting in drafting bonds and provide feedback on bond wording modifications.
  9. Participate in key account meetings and marketing events.
  10. Lead and motivate a high-performance team, managing recruitment, onboarding, and retention.
  11. Manage performance through clear expectations, monitoring, feedback, and development.
  12. Maintain transparent communication within the team through various channels.
  13. Participate in industry conferences and professional societies to share knowledge.
  14. Create a workplace culture aligned with Zurich's mission, vision, and values.
  15. Protect Zurich's reputation by maintaining confidentiality of claims information.
  16. Enhance professional knowledge through education, networking, and industry involvement.
  17. Contribute to team projects and initiatives as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor and 8+ years in Claims OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 9+ years in Claims OR
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 11+ years in Claims, plus 3+ years management experience.
  • Customer service experience, proficiency with Microsoft Office, knowledge of insurance statutes and procedures, and willingness to travel (0-25%).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor highly preferred.
  • Negotiation skills, cross-group collaboration experience, and in-depth industry knowledge.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, analytical skills, and leadership experience.

At Zurich, compensation is influenced by various factors including location, role, skills, and experience. The salary range for this position is $113,100 - $185,100, with a 20% short-term incentive bonus eligibility. For more details, click here.
