Job summary

Southport Mechanical in Caledonia, WI is seeking a Commercial Service Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain complex HVAC and refrigeration systems for commercial clients. You will work hands-on with rooftop units, boilers, chillers, heat pumps, and related equipment.

We value strong troubleshooting skills in electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and control systems, plus clear communication with customers and accurate documentation of service activities.

Qualifications

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems, including rooftop units, boilers, chillers, heat pumps, and related equipment.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and equipment inspections.
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Install, repair, and replace HVAC components, motors, compressors, contactors, thermostats, sensors, valves, and other system parts.
• Service and troubleshoot commercial refrigeration circuits and related components.

Responsibilities

We're looking for a hands-on technician with strong troubleshooting skills in electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and control systems who can independently service equipment, communicate professionally with customers, and maintain accurate documentation.

Duties and responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC systems, including rooftop units, furnaces, boilers, chillers, heat pumps, air handlers, and ventilation equipment.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and equipment inspections.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and control system issues.
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Install, repair, and replace HVAC components, motors, compressors, contactors, thermostats, sensors, valves, and other system parts.
• Service and troubleshoot commercial refrigeration circuits and related components.
• Test system operation, verify proper performance, and make necessary adjustments.
• Identify equipment deficiencies and communicate recommended repairs or replacement options to customers.
• Complete service tickets, maintenance reports, equipment documentation, and time records accurately.
• Maintain company vehicles, tools, equipment, and inventory in good working condition.
• Follow applicable mechanical codes, refrigerant handling requirements, OSHA safety practices, and company procedures.
• Maintain professional communication with customers, facility managers, coworkers, and supervisors.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service calls as required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry HVAC equipment, tools, and materials as required.
• Ability to climb ladders, access rooftops, and work in mechanical rooms and elevated areas.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, reach, and work in confined or awkward spaces.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and HVAC testing equipment.
