Qualifications

Responsibilities

Role Description

The Commercial PV Designer is a full-time, on-site role based in the Austin, Texas Metropolitan Area. This role is responsible for designing commercial photovoltaic (PV) systems, including layout development, equipment selection, and performance modeling. Day-to-day tasks include creating detailed design drawings, conducting site assessments, reviewing structural and electrical constraints, and coordinating with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams. The Commercial PV Designer will prepare technical documentation, support permitting and interconnection applications, and ensure that designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and utility requirements. The role may also involve optimizing system designs for cost, efficiency, and constructability while maintaining safety and quality standards.


Qualifications


  • Proficiency in PV design tools and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, or similar) and the ability to produce clear, accurate drawings and layouts.

  • Strong knowledge of commercial solar system components, electrical design principles, and relevant codes and standards (e.g., NEC, local building codes, utility requirements).

  • Experience interpreting site plans, structural drawings, and survey data, with the ability to integrate this information into practical PV system designs.

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills for evaluating system performance, shading, and energy production, and for optimizing designs for efficiency and cost.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with engineers, project managers, installers, and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple design projects, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, renewable energy, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience in commercial solar design.

  • Previous experience in commercial or utility-scale PV design is strongly preferred; NABCEP certification or similar credential is a plus.
