Job summary

Ryan Specialty Group is seeking a Property Underwriter in the Miami area to evaluate, price, and structure commercial property risks across primary and excess layers. You will work with brokers, reinsurers, and carrier partners to grow a profitable book under delegated authority.

The role requires 3+ years in commercial property underwriting, strong COPE and CAT modeling knowledge, and proficient use of RMS or AIR/Verisk tools. Strong communication and negotiation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of commercial property underwriting experience.
• Strong understanding of COPE analysis, CAT modeling, and layered/tower placement structures.
• Experience underwriting complex, large-account, or catastrophe-exposed property risks.
• Proficiency with catastrophe modeling software (RMS, AIR/Verisk Touchstone, or similar) and rating/pricing tools.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to build broker relationships.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal commercial property business on both a primary and excess basis.
• Analyze property schedules, SOVs, loss runs, COPE data, and engineering reports to assess risk.
• Evaluate CAT exposures using modeling tools and apply terms, pricing, and capacity.
• Structure excess and layered/tower placements, coordinating attachment points and terms.
• Price risks, negotiate terms and pricing with brokers, issue quotes and binders.
• Manage a book of business to meet growth, profitability, retention, and loss ratio targets.
• Maintain underwriting files and ensure regulatory compliance.
