Job summary

Ryan Specialty, LLC is seeking a Property Underwriter to evaluate, price, and structure commercial property risks across primary and excess layers. The role requires strong underwriting judgment, CAT exposure analysis, and collaboration with brokers, reinsurers, and carrier partners to grow a profitable book under delegated authority.

The candidate will underwrite new and renewal business, assess COPE data, model CAT exposures, and structure layered placements while maintaining accurate files

Qualifications

• 3+ years of commercial property underwriting experience across primary and excess layers.
• Strong understanding of COPE, CAT modeling, and layered/tower placements.
• Experience underwriting complex large-account or catastrophe-exposed property risks.
• Proficiency with catastrophe modeling software and rating/pricing tools.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; broker relationship building.
• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, risk management, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal commercial property business on both a primary and excess basis.
• Evaluate risk quality, exposure, and pricing adequacy per guidelines and authority.
• Analyze schedules, SOVs, loss runs, COPE data, and engineering reports.
• Assess CAT exposures using modeling tools and apply terms and pricing.
• Structure excess and layered placements with attachment points, limits, and terms.
• Quote, bind, and issue policies within authority; negotiate terms with brokers.
• Manage a book to meet growth, profitability, retention, and loss ratio targets.
• Build relationships with brokers to drive submissions and market the MGA's capabilities.
• Monitor treaty/facultative reinsurance and ensure compliance with guidelines.
• Collaborate with actuarial, catastrophe modeling, claims, and reinsurance teams.
