Job summary

Westmark Credit Union in Idaho Falls seeks a Commercial Portfolio Assistant to support the Commercial Portfolio Administrator and Lending Team. You will help monitor portfolios, prepare credit analyses, and manage loan documentation to maintain credit quality across CRE, C&I, and construction loans.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent banking/credit union experience.

• Strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with periodic loan reviews by gathering financial statements, tax returns, and borrower documentation.
• Support portfolio review processes by preparing loan files and updating tracking systems.
• Monitor loan requirements including covenants, insurance, taxes, appraisals, and reserves.
• Input and maintain borrower financial data in the LoanVantage System.
• Prepare preliminary financial spreads using standardized software.
• Coordinate documentation and follow up on outstanding items and compliance.

Position Summary: The Commercial Portfolio Assistant supports the Commercial Portfolio Administrator and Commercial Lending Team by assisting with portfolio monitoring, credit analysis preparation, and loan documentation processes. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate records, supporting ongoing loan reviews, tracking financial covenant compliance, and ensuring timely follow-up on required documentation. The Commercial Portfolio Assistant plays a key role in maintaining the overall credit quality of Westmark’s commercial lending portfolio, including Commercial Real Estate (CRE), Commercial Construction, and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) loans.

Schedule: Approximately 40 hours within a Monday through Friday work wee

Responsibilities

• Assist with periodic loan reviews by gathering financial statements, tax returns, and required borrower documentation.
• Support quarterly, semi-annual, and annual portfolio review processes by preparing loan files and updating internal tracking systems.
• Assist in tracking loan requirements, including financial covenants, insurance coverage, property taxes, appraisals, and reserve requirements.
• Input and maintain borrower financial information and portfolio monitoring data in the LoanVantage System.
• Prepare preliminary financial spreads by entering and organizing borrower financial information using standardized financial analysis software.
• Monitor and follow up on outstanding documentation, financial statements, and compliance items.
• Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly portfolio reports for the SVP of Commercial Lending and/or Chief Lending & Infrastructure Officer.
• Maintain organized and accurate digital loan files in accordance with credit union policy and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate communication between Commercial Loan Officers, Credit Analysts, and borrowers regarding documentation needs.
• Provide administrative and operational support for new credit requests and loan renewals.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of commercial lending policies and procedures.
• Participate in Westmark-sponsored community events, representing the Credit Union professionally.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Commercial Portfolio Administrator or SVP of Commercial Lending.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Associate degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field; or equivalent banking/credit union experience.
• One to three years of experience in banking, credit union operations, lending support, or financial services preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas and basic financial calculations.
• Basic understanding of financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow).
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
