Job summary

Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD is seeking a Facilities Engineer/Plumber to inspect, repair and maintain facility and plant piping, plumbing and fire protection systems. The role involves installing new equipment, reading blueprints and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and safety standards.

We require a high school diploma or equivalent, with trade/vocational training in pipefitting or plumbing and 3 years of related experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Medical gas piping certification or journeyman license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, install, repair, replace, modify and perform preventative maintenance of facility and plant piping, plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Maintain records and perform PM in compliance with applicable codes.
  • Read blueprints and specifications; install new equipment and piping.
  • Adhere to Meritus Health policies and procedures.

  • Pay or shift range: $20.77 USD to $31.15 USD
    The posted range is the budgeted amount for this position. The actual rate of pay will be determined based on several factors, including your relevant experience, education, skills, internal equity, and alignment with Meritus Health's compensation practices.
Description

Under the general direction of the Facilities Engineering Management Team, performs duties associated with the inspection, installation, repair, replacement, modification and preventative maintenance of facility and plant, plumbing, piping, plant utility systems, pumps, and fire protection systems. Including, but not limited to, piping, plumbing, drainage systems, valves, traps, pumps, motors, compressors, fluid systems, medical gas systems and associated fixtures and devices. Works on complex problems which may involve the modification and partial redesign of a piece of equipment and or piping and fluid systems. Chemically treats all closed-loop cooling and heating systems. Maintains records, and prepares JCAHO required, systems testing and adheres to schedule for PM of equipment, systems, and procedures in compliance with applicable codes. Installs new equipment and piping systems meeting applicable codes.

Education – High school diploma or equivalent. Trade/Vocational school training in various skills with course work in Pipefitting, Plumbing, Fire Protection systems and gas welding or equivalent experience preferred.

3 years of experience preferred. Experience in installation, construction, repair and maintenance of piping, plumbing, fire protection, and building systems preferred.

Licensure/Certification – Medical gas piping c ertification preferred. Journeyman Plumbers License Preferred. For use of Meritus Vehicles: Valid Driver’s License, A driving record as required by law for vehicle expected to operate. No record of moving violations in the past three years is preferred. Certified copy of driving record is required to be provided by team member annually on date of birth. Acknowledgement with signature to "Attestation A" of Meritus Vehicle Management Use and Control policy. For use of Personal Vehicles: Access to a vehicle and current driver’s license from any state is required. Acknowledgement with signature to "Attestation A" of Meritus Vehicle Management Use and Control policy, which includes guidelines for personal insurance coverage requirements.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the plumbing trade. Knowledge of applicable plumbing codes. Knowledge of the mechanical operation of equipment such as pumps, boilers, heaters, and other plumbing components. Skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all types of plumbing systems. Must be able to read blueprints and specifications. Have good communication skills.
