Job summary

AtlantiCare is seeking a Plumber to inspect, repair and replace pipes, fittings, and fixtures across heating, cooling, water and drainage systems. You will troubleshoot complex plumbing problems, work with outside vendors, and document maintenance logs and reports accurately.

Ideal candidates have healthcare facility experience, familiarity with codes and inspections, and the ability to read plans and determine materials and manpower needs.

Qualifications

  • English proficiency required for reading, understanding and communicating with tradesmen and supervisors.
  • Experience interpreting architectural, mechanical and electrical drawings is preferred.
  • Education in topic or equivalent experience; High School Diploma or GED is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform PM tasks on equipment, inspect for wear and tear, and carry out repairs per safety rules.
  • Study building plans and drawings to determine work aids and installation sequence.
  • Inspect structures to avoid obstructions and ensure structural integrity during plumbing work.
  • Locate and mark pipe positions, cut, bend, thread and fit pipes; join using solder, fittings and other methods.
  • Repair and service plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, water heaters and softeners.
  • Inspect completed work for code compliance and prepare accurate documentation.
  • Estimate time and materials for plumbing projects; maintain a clean, safe work area.

Plumber demonstrates the ability to teach, learn and apply trade skills. This position inspects, repairs and replaces pipes, fittings and plumbing fixtures to maintain heating, cooling, pneumatic, water, gas and drainage systems. Responsible for troubleshooting plumbing systems and ensuring work meets specifications and codes. Works with outside vendors and reports discrepancies to management.

Plumber ensures that all mechanical logs and reports are completed in an accurate and timely manner. This position works within the chosen trade, independently, to analyze, and correct complex problems, determines manpower need, materials needs, and deadlines for jobs or projects. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
  • Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.
  • Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.
  • Cuts, bends, threads and fits pipe using pipe assemblies
  • Caulks leaks and opens clogged drains.
  • Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, caulks joints, Victaulic connectors, welding, soldering, brazing or other methods as prescribed by supervision or engineering instruction.
  • Works on repairs and servicing plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.
  • Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and local building codes
  • Estimates time and material cost on plumbing projects.
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment. Maintains tools and equipment in good working conditions.
  • Completes required documentation for both the company and the client in timely manner. Documentation is legible and accurate to the best of the employees knowledge.
  • Receives company provided training concerning, but not limited to, Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space Entry, Blood Borne Pathogen, Safety, Accident Reporting and Prevention, and others, and applies this training during working hours as applicable. Reports unsafe working conditions to appropriate level as required.
  • Demonstrates ability to put fire system in bypass and reset system as needed. Ability to reset fire panels and determine actual trouble and alarm events.
  • May replace tile, re plaster or paint walls through which holes have been broken to gain access to plumbing
  • Work in inclement weather if the need arises.

TYPICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Apply basic skills and may develop advanced skills using tools and equipment appropriate for the position. Ability to effectively communicate policies and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by fellow employees.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Must be able to read, understand and communicate in English is required.Communication includes both verbal and written skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with other tradesmen as well as peers, supervision and customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Simple mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Can understand concepts such as diameter, radius, circumference, etc.

REASONING ABILITY Must have a good sense of mechanical systems and understand the concepts that make them operate in a safe and efficient condition.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Drivers License required. Education in topic or Equivalent Experience

EXPERIENCE:

Commercial, industrial or institutional experience within a healthcare facility on building maintenance and repair of complex environmental systems preferred. Demonstrates knowledge of building codes, state requirements, healthcare regulatory standards and Joint Commission compliance required. Demonstrates knowledge of Occupational Hazard, and Safety Precautions, within various trades required.Demonstrates ability and knowledge to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee must be able to climb, work in hot or cold environments within the scope of OSHA and other applicable jurisdiction regulations, perform confined space entry via manhole or other available ingress/egress points.Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds and perform all required range of motions normally expected of a person performing maintenance work. Must be able towork in a strained position some of the time. Work whatever hours are necessary to maintain facility in a safe manner including weekends and nights

Employees must be able to work standing up, sitting, crouching or lying prone while properly using hand and power tools to perform assigned tasks. Employees must be able to work while wearing prescribed safety equipment including safety shoes Reach with hands / arms and fingers are also required. The ability to communicate while working, both via speech and hearing is required.Vision requirements include the ability to see close work, see distance, use depth perception and adjust focus both for distance and for changing light conditions.
