Job summary

Meritus Health Inc. seeks a skilled facilities technician focusing on plumbing, piping, and fire protection systems at our Hagerstown, MD campus.

You will inspect, install, repair, and maintain complex facility and plant systems, including medical gas piping and related fixtures, adhering to codes and PM schedules. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent, hands-on trade/vocational training, and at least 3 years of experience in piping and building systems.

Qualifications

• Education – High school diploma or equivalent; trade/vocational training in pipefitting, plumbing, fire protection systems preferred.
• Experience – 3 years of experience preferred in installation, construction, repair and maintenance of piping, plumbing, fire protection, and building systems.
• Licensure/Certification – Medical gas piping certification preferred; Journeyman Plumber license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, install, repair, replace, modify and perform preventive maintenance of facility and plant plumbing, piping, and fire protection systems.
• Operate and maintain pumps, motors, compressors, valves, and gas systems; read blueprints and specs.
• Ensure compliance with codes and timely PM schedules; document activities and tests.

Job description

Under the general direction of the Facilities Engineering Management Team, performs duties associated with the inspection, installation, repair, replacement, modification and preventative maintenance of facility and plant, plumbing, piping, plant utility systems, pumps, and fire protection systems. Including, but not limited to, piping, plumbing, drainage systems, valves, traps, pumps, motors, compressors, fluid systems, medical gas systems and associated fixtures and devices. Works on complex problems which may involve the modification and partial redesign of a piece of equipment and or piping and fluid systems. Chemically treats all closed-loop cooling and heating systems. Maintains records, and prepares JCAHO required, systems testing and adheres to schedule for PM of equipment, systems, and procedures in compliance with applicable codes. Installs new equipment and piping systems meeting applicable codes.

Education – High school diploma or equivalent. Trade/Vocational school training in various skills with course work in Pipefitting, Plumbing, Fire Protection systems and gas welding or equivalent experience preferred.

Experience – 3 years of experience preferred. Experience in installation, construction, repair and maintenance of piping, plumbing, fire protection, and building systems preferred.

Licensure/Certification – Medical gas piping certification preferred. Journeyman Plumbers License Preferred. For use of Meritus Vehicles: Valid Driver’s License, A driving record as required by law for vehicle expected to operate. No record of moving violations in the past three years is preferred. Certified copy of driving record is required to be provided by team member annually on date of birth. Acknowledgement with signature to “Attestation A” of Meritus Vehicle Management Use and Control policy. For use of Personal Vehicles: Access to a vehicle and current driver’s license from any state is required. Acknowledgement with signature to “Attestation A” of Meritus Vehicle Management Use and Control policy, which includes guidelines for personal insurance coverage requirements.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the plumbing trade. Knowledge of applicable plumbing codes. Knowledge of the mechanical operation of equipment such as pumps, boilers, heaters, and other plumbing components. Skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all types of plumbing systems. Must be able to read blueprints and specifications. Have good communication skills.
