Job summary

Kinsley Steel, Inc. in York, PA, is seeking an experienced tractor-trailer driver to support steel shipments and site deliveries. The role requires operating flatbeds or straight trucks and adhering to DOT regulations.

You will secure loads, perform pre-trip and post-trip checks, maintain logs, and coordinate with dispatchers. Some weekend or overtime work may be required.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL with a clean MVR.
• Minimum 5 years of commercial truck driving experience.
• Must be 21 years or older.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Demonstrated knowledge of DOT safety procedures and load securement.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and stay safety-focused.

Responsibilities

• Operate Tractor Trailer with Flatbed or straight truck to haul steel and equipment.
• Properly secure loads using chains, binders, and straps.
• Load and unload materials from trucks, using manual lifting, forklifts, or overhead cranes.
• Coordinate with shipping and receiving for daily deliveries and pickups.
• Plan routes and delivery schedules to meet deadlines while following DOT regulations and safety policies.
• Maintain Driver's Log and Safety Reports per state and federal regulations.
• Ensure freight documents are signed and submitted timely.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report issues.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform basic maintenance (refueling, minor repairs).
• Communicate professionally with dispatchers, customers, and team members.
• Assist the team in other non-driving tasks when deliveries are not needed.

Daily Responsibilities

• The home base for this position will be York, PA.
• Safe and professional operation of a Tractor Trailer with a Flatbed Trailer (45', 48', 53', or Stretch), straight truck, or other vehicles to haul steel and equipment.
• Properly secure loads using chains, binders, and straps to ensure stability during transport.
• Physically load and unload materials from trucks, trailers, shop floors, and ground using manual lifting, forklifts, or overhead cranes.
• Coordinate with shipping and receiving for daily deliveries and pickups.
• Plan routes and delivery schedules to meet deadlines while following all DOT regulations and company safety policies.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date Driver's Log, Safety Reports, and other required documents per state and federal regulations.
• Ensure all freight documents are signed and submitted in a timely manner.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report any mechanical issues, defects, accidents, or violations to the appropriate personnel.
• Drivers are responsible for performing minor preventive maintenance and ensuring proper maintenance of vehicles; including refueling, cleaning, and minor repairs.
• Maintain professional communication with dispatchers, customers, and team members.
• Assist the team in other non-driving-related tasks when deliveries are not needed.

Requirements

• Possess a valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record and a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Minimum 5 years of commercial truck driving experience (preferred).
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Demonstrated expertise in DOT safety procedures, load securement practices, and regulatory compliance to ensure safe and lawful transportation operations.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound safety judgements.
• Experience delivering to construction jobsites is preferred.
• Experience hauling stretch and wide loads is not required but a plus.
• Knowledge of securing structural steel, stairs, and rails is a plus.
• Ability to work overtime and on Saturdays as required.
• Ability to stay out of town on occasion.
