Job summary

gpac is seeking a results-oriented Commercial Mechanical Estimator in Elk Grove Village, IL, with 3–5+ years of estimating experience in mechanical construction. This role focuses on HVAC piping, process piping, sheet metal, and full lifecycle services for large institutions.

You will lead the mechanical portion of estimates, coordinate scopes, solicit subcontractors, and review plans to ensure pricing aligns with the scope. Strong blueprint reading and AutoBid skills are valued.

Qualifications

• Experience estimating mechanical construction projects, with HVAC, piping, and sheet metal knowledge.
• Ability to read plans and specs and align pricing to scope.
• Familiarity with Trimble AutoBid and estimation software.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Sheet Metal, Plumbing, HVAC piping, and Process Piping estimates.
• Lead the mechanical portion of estimates and ensure scopes are coordinated and complete.
• Solicit subcontractors during bidding and organize post-bid information for future reference.
• Review narratives, plans and specs to ensure pricing matches the scope.
• Communicate with project leads to clarify scope, materials, and schedule requirements.
• Develop and maintain relationships with internal clients and subcontractors/vendors.
• Prepare scopes of work for subcontractors and coordinate across disciplines.
• Maintain files of working documents and current supplier price data.
• Support other department personnel as required.
• Maintain library of project job costs for future estimates.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and/or site tours to confirm take-offs.

Job description

We are seeking a results-oriented Commercial Mechanical Estimator with progressive estimating experience in mechanical construction. Join an area mechanical contractor with 50+ years delivering HVAC piping, Process Piping, sheet metal, and full lifecycle mechanical services for k-12 schools, universities, military buildings and more.

What You Will Do

• Prepare Sheet Metal, Plumbing, HVAC piping, and Process Piping estimates
• Lead the mechanical portion of estimates and ensure that scopes are coordinated and complete
• Solicit subcontractors during the bidding process and organize information post-bid for future reference
• Review and understand narratives, plans and specifications to ensure alignment between pricing and the scope of work
• Communicate with project leads to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements
• Develop and maintain relationships with internal clients and subcontractors/vendors
• Prepare scopes of work for subcontractors and suppliers and coordinate scopes of work across disciplines
• Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current information on prices from suppliers
• Supports other department personnel as required
• Maintain library of project job costs for use in future project estimates
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction
• Attend pre-bid meetings and/or tour job sites to confirm requisite take-offs

What We Expect

• 3-5+ years Commercial Mechanical estimating experience
• Proficiency reading blueprints, specifications, and mechanical details. Trimble AutoBid experience a plus.
• Familiarity with HVAC equipment, chillers, rooftop units, pumps, VAV/controls, and piping systems
• Strong analytical skills, organized documentation, and estimating software literacy
• Coachable, detail-oriented, team-focused
