Job summary

HDR is a leading engineering and architecture firm committed to inclusive, high‑performing teams. The Commercial Management Coordinator role supports contract management, document control, risk management and project accounting to help projects run smoothly and on budget.

Based in Boston, MA, the position may require travel up to 10% and offers the opportunity to work with industry‑leading professionals on complex design‑build projects in the power sector.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in Architecture/Engineering, Design-Build, P3, project management, or project controls.
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, business, law or equivalent (entry level possible).
  • Able to work well in a high performing team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with good communication and people skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing weekly and monthly reports.
  • Assist in document production and transmission.
  • Assist in drafting contracts.
  • Assist in data analysis and tracking.
  • Assist in startup, execution, and close-out documentation development, storage and communication.
  • Up to 10% travel may be required.
  • Assist in preparing Subcontracts and processing change orders.
  • Participate in Monthly Project Reviews for risk management.
  • Assist with onboarding team members.
  • Coordinate with Project Controls Manager on Schedule.

The Commercial Management Coordinator is responsible for the completion of tasks as delegated by the Senior Commercial Manager, Commercial Manager, or Project Manager

Responsibilities
  • Assists in preparing weekly and monthly reports as required
  • Assists in document production and transmission
  • Assists in drafting contracts
  • Assists in data analysis and tracking
  • Assists in project startup, execution, and close out documentation development, storage and communication
  • Other tasks as assigned
  • Up to 10% travel may be required depending on the needs of the projects
Contract Management
  • Monitoring Compliance
  • Assist in Preparing Subcontracts
  • Assist in Processing Contract Change Orders
  • Assist in Contract Close-Out
Risk Management
  • Circulate Risk Register for Updates
  • Participate in Monthly Project Reviews
Document Control
  • Verify Compliance
  • Assist with Onboarding Team Members
Dispute Resolution
  • Assist with Monitoring Claims Issues
  • Review Supporting Documents for Impacts on Firm Fixed Fee Consultants or Subcontractor Infractions
Project Accounting
  • Support Internal and External Invoicing
  • Review Reimbursable Expenses
Scheduling
  • Coordinate with Project Controls Manager on Schedule
Issues/Impacts
  • Attend Schedule Report Outs and Assist with
Identification of Design Team Risks
  • Assist with Schedule Adjustments for Change Orders
Preferred Qualifications
  • Design build experience
  • Ability to do low code programming is a plus (e.g. QuickBase)
  • Experience in claims which may include claims defense, claim production, claim negotiation/resolution, and claim prevention
  • Experience and/or working knowledge of negotiation of contracts for architecture/engineering projects
  • Preference given to local candidates
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in Architecture/ Engineering, Design-Build, P3, project management, or project controls environment
  • Entry level positions are possible with a bachelor's degree in architecture, business, law or equivalent
  • Ability to work well in a high performing team structure in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-starter; good communication and people skills
  • Must be committed to quality and improvement and promoting HDR's values
