Your Role in Our Success

The Commercial Loan Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and underwriting commercial loan applications submitted by internal sales and credit union clients. This role involves conducting detailed financial analyses, assessing risks, and ensuring compliance with lending policies and regulatory requirements. As part of a Credit Union Service Organization (CUSO), the underwriter will play a critical role in supporting member business lending functions for multiple credit unions.

• Analyze commercial loan requests, including financial statements, tax returns, credit reports, and supplemental financial data to assess borrower capacity, capital, character, collateral, and conditions
• Prepare comprehensive Credit Approval Packages detailing risk factors, compliance with lending policies, and recommendations for approval, denial, or modification.
• Prepare and recommend loan approvals, pricing structures, terms, and conditions for individual or cumulative loan packages based on sound financial analysis.
• Prepare accurate loan commitment letters and manage syndication/participation of loans
• Communicate loan status updates clearly with borrowers, referral sources, or credit unions throughout the process.
• Participate in business sales calls with credit union representatives or CBS Business Development Officers (BDOs) as needed to support the underwriting process.
• Assist in the underwriting, closing, and funding processes of SBA loans in coordination with leadership
• Maintain a thorough understanding of CBS LLC underwriting guidelines and procedures.
• Ensure adherence and compliance to federal and state regulations
  
  

Requirements

What You Bring to the Table

• You have a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration
• You have 3+ years of experience in commercial credit analysis or underwriting
• You are Proficient in Microsoft 365 products and lending software, such as Abrigo or Built
• You have strong proficiency in financial statement analysis, tax return review, and loan underwriting.
• You work well independently and remotely with minimal supervision.
• You have strong attention to detail with accurate information processing and high-quality standards.
• You have excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear and effective collaboration.
• You have strong time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• You have an analytical mindset to evaluate data, identify patterns, and develop insights.
• You have a team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate and coordinate across departments
