Our Commercial Lines Key Accounts department is currently seeking an experienced underwriter to actively engage with agents and brokers to manage a book of new and renewal business in the assigned multi-state territory under limited general supervision. This position is for our Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, territory.

Positions serving territories away from our Headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio may be fully remote.

Starting pay: The pay range for this position is $100,000 - $195,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.

Be ready to:

  • Collaborate with the construction industry and discuss issues and their potential impact on the insurance industry.
  • Proactively engage in accounts in the assigned territory and work with management to strategically grow within the territory through the field marketing reps.
  • Strategically engage with partner agents that drive revenue with Key Account size business by promoting our company’s products and services.
  • Evaluate and document contractor exposures and controls, analyze actuarial loss models using a layered and excess loss approach.
  • Price business to achieve positive returns within the framework of the organization’s risk appetite.
  • Effectively negotiate renewals to achieve business unit goals, including rate/retention dynamics and policy terms and conditions.
  • Develop and execute stewardship service plans addressing claims, loss control and RMIS service needs.
  • Understand the agency planning process and impact of contingency/supplemental commission arrangements.
  • Collaborate with and mentor less experienced underwriters.

Be equipped with:

  • Five years of underwriting experience, preferably with a focus on the construction sector.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building abilities.
  • Working knowledge of large account marketing and underwriting, including awareness of loss sensitive programs, familiarity with collateral concepts, wrap-ups and other contractor specific coverage is desired.
  • Analytical and critical-thinking skills.
  • Understanding of portfolio management and ability to balance growth and profit dynamics to achieve company targets.
  • Self-starter with creative thinking and an ability to create opportunity.
  • Willingness to travel.

Bring education and experience from:

  • CPCU/other designations preferred.
