Michigan Millers is seeking a Commercial Lines Associate Underwriter to join our team in our Lansing office!

The individual in this role will be responsible for creating strong agency relationships that operate under a designated level of authority at the direction of assigned underwriters. They develop profitable premium growth through policy processing and technical support for both new and renewal business.

Responsibilities of an Associate Underwriter include:

  • Engage in the daily underwriting and processing of new and renewal business, endorsements, and premium audit transactions.
  • Use established practices, processes, and procedures to renew and write new policies based on underwriting authority.
  • Review new and renewal business application documents, gather additional information as needed to accurately underwrite policies.
  • Understand rating methodology and coverage.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

What is a must-have?

  • Ability to follow processes and attention to details.
  • Knowledge of industry practices, standards, and underwriting concepts.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to multitask and solve basic problems.
  • Flexibility to handle various assignments.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Bachelor's degree in Insurance or Finance; experience in lieu of degree.

Preferred Skills

  • AU and/or INS certification.

Compensation Overview: The targeted hiring range for this role is $50,388 - $60,465. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role. Candidates looking for compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and/or may be considered for other positions.
