General Summary

Responsible for billing and follow-up on all third party/insurance claims and ensures prompt and accurate reimbursement.

Essential Job Duties

• Completes billing and posting duties on third party payer accounts.
• Performs account follow-up and maintenance.
• Responds to third party, patient, and customer service unit inquiries and correspondence.
• Provides recommendations for accounts pending bad debt write-off.
• Re-bills appropriate bad debt accounts.
• Resolves coding errors.
• Recognizes and resolves charging errors using the appropriate mechanisms.
• Researches and prepares refunds according to hospital policy.
• Monitors managed care contracts.
• Manages disproportionate Share Hospital DSH Program.
• Covers for the cashier/switchboard position.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
• Familiarity with third party billing requirements, reimbursement systems, and medical terminology.

Education and Experience Required

This position prefers three years of business office experience or equivalency; demonstrated computer skills. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
