Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking an experienced HVAC Mechanic (Union) to support our North America HVAC business in Indiana. The role involves hands-on service for light to heavy commercial equipment, including troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and replacement of heating and cooling systems.

The candidate will work with journeymen and branch colleagues, using shaft alignment and vibration tools to diagnose issues, while adhering to safety standards and driving customer outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of commercial/industrial HVAC troubleshooting experience.
• Practical work experience in HVAC piping, plumbing, pipefitting, and/or mechanical equipment service.
• Experience with light commercial or commercial mechanical equipment.
• Mechanical shaft alignment experience using dial indicators.
• Experience using vibration equipment to troubleshoot drivelines.
• Ability to pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.
• Ability to write and communicate service problems, root causes, and corrective actions clearly.
• Self-starter with a desire to learn and apply new skills on the job.
• Willingness to travel 10% to 20% to support branch activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
• Troubleshoot commercial HVACR equipment including rooftops, pumps, fans, boilers, chillers, and related components.
• Partner with journeymen on chiller repairs.
• Identify facility inefficiencies during commissioning and aftermarket service visits.
• Prepare quotes and support upselling opportunities to improve system performance.
• Communicate problems, causes, and corrective actions clearly to customers and teams.
• Work with local mechanics and branch staff to support service and repair needs.
• Use shaft alignment and vibration equipment to troubleshoot drivelines, pumps, fans, and compressors.
• Follow safe work practices and complete tasks to a high standard.
