Job summary

Copper River Family of Companies seeks an experienced Commercial HVAC Technician to support National Museum of the United States Army operations at Fort Belvoir, VA. You will maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize commercial/industrial HVAC&R systems in a secure government environment.

The role requires 3–5+ years of HVAC&R service, ability to read schematics/blueprints, and EPA Section 608 certification. Licensing such as NATE/DC3 and Boiler Operator is highly preferred.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of commercial/industrial HVAC&R service experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain access to Fort Belvoir, VA.
• EPA Section 608 Certification required; licensing preferred.
• Strong ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC&R systems in a commercial/industrial setting.
• Diagnose mechanical/electrical/control issues to ensure optimal performance.
• Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics; interpret technical manuals.
• Operate and troubleshoot BAS/DDC systems and pneumatic/digital controls.
• Perform preventive maintenance per manufacturer specs and safety standards.
• Support boiler, chiller, and stationary equipment operations as needed.
• Ensure safety, EPA, and regulatory compliance; document service actions.
• Communicate conditions and actions to staff; maintain service reports.
• Work in confined spaces, rooftops; adapt to varying conditions.
• Maintain professionalism in a government, high-security environment.

Job description

Coho Construction Management is seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC Technician to support operations at the National Museum of the United States Army located on Fort Belvoir, Virginia. This position is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of commercial and industrial HVAC&R systems in a secure, high-profile government environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, professionalism, and the ability to work independently while supporting mission-critical facilities.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

• Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial and industrial HVAC&R systems.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control system issues to ensure optimal system performance.
• Read and interpret commercial blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot BAS/DDC systems, including pneumatic and digital controls.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
• Support boiler, chiller, and stationary equipment operations as required.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including EPA standards.
• Communicate system conditions, repair needs, and corrective actions to facility staff and non-technical personnel.
• Maintain accurate service documentation and reports.
• Perform duties in confined spaces, on rooftops, and in varying environmental conditions.
• Maintain professionalism and reliability while working in a government and high-security environment.

Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:

• Security Clearance:
• Ability to obtain and maintain access to a secure government installation at Fort Belvoir, VA
• Education and Certifications:
• EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (mandatory)
• NATE, DC3, NIULPE, or state-specific HVAC licensing (highly preferred)
• Stationary Engineer License (highly preferred)
• Boiler Operator License (highly preferred)
• Experience:
• 3–5+ years of experience in commercial or industrial HVAC&R service
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting commercial blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics
• Strong understanding of BAS/DDC systems, including pneumatic and digital controls
• Experience with CMMS preferred
• Additional Requirements
• Ability to safely lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders, work at heights, and perform duties in extreme temperatures or confined spaces
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical personnel
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Professional demeanor suitable for high-visibility government facilities
