Coho Technology Solutions in Kittery, Maine, seeks an experienced Welder (Pipefitter) to perform journey-level welding, fabrication, repair, and assembly of metal components for industrial and Naval applications.

You will interpret blueprints, select welding methods, and ensure welds meet penetration, strength, and finish specifications while maintaining safety and quality standards. This role requires physical stamina and the ability to work in confined spaces and challenging environments.

Job description

Coho Technology Solutions is seeking an experienced Welder (Pipefitter) to perform journey-level welding, fabrication, repair, modification, rebuilding, and assembly of metal and alloy components, equipment, systems, and structures in support of industrial and Naval operations in Kittery, Maine.

The Welder (Pipefitter) will perform a variety of manual welding assignments using electric arc, inert gas-shielded, gas torch, and other approved welding processes. The position requires the ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings, specifications, and work orders; select appropriate welding materials and techniques; and produce welds that meet specified requirements for penetration, fusion, strength, dimensions, and finish.

Must pass a required physical examination prior to placement and periodic examinations thereafter, as applicable.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

• Perform journey-level welding using electric, gas, arc, inert gas-shielded, plasma, and other applicable welding processes.
• Weld, repair, modify, fabricate, rebuild, and assemble metal and alloy parts, equipment, components, systems, and structures.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings, specifications, and work orders.
• Determine work requirements, plan the sequence of operations, and select appropriate welding methods and materials.
• Select proper electrodes, rods, filler materials, and other welding consumables based on the material and welding application.
• Perform welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, including work in difficult-to-access areas.
• Perform pre-heating, brazing, flame cutting, heat treating, bead welding, tack welding, and related fabrication activities as required.
• Use templates, jigs, fixtures, and other tools to achieve required dimensions, fit, alignment, and tolerances.
• Heat, bend, cut, and shape metal of various thicknesses and types to meet required dimensions and configurations.
• Weld pressure vessels and high-temperature steam and water lines as assigned.
• Weld dissimilar metals while achieving complete penetration and/or fusion and minimizing distortion, burning, and other defects.
• Inspect completed welds and ensure they meet applicable specifications, accepted trade practices, and quality requirements.
• Support destructive and non-destructive testing of welds, including radiographic, magnetic particle, dye penetrant, pressure, and other applicable testing.
• Identify and correct welding defects, including cracks, slag inclusions, inadequate penetration, improper fusion, and dimensional deficiencies.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area and comply with established safety procedures.
• Properly use required personal protective equipment and protective clothing.
• Work collaboratively with other tradespeople on preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and related industrial assignments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:

• Clearance:
  • Must obtain and maintain continuous eligibility for Secret clearance and access to Confidential/Secret information, when required
• Licensure and Certifications:
  • Ability to successfully complete required welding proficiency testing.
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications for welding, including respirator certification when applicable
  • Current CPR certification is required
  • May be required to maintain current welding certifications and demonstrate welding proficiency through destructive and non-destructive testing
  • May be required to operate mobile cranes or motor vehicles requiring licensing for vehicles up to 2 tons
• Experience:
  • Demonstrated journeyman-level welding skills
  • Experience with gas welding processes such as oxyacetylene, oxy-hydrogen, or other industrial gas welding processes
  • Experience with applicable arc welding processes, including gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), plasma arc, carbon arc, or comparable processes
  • Demonstrated ability to weld materials ranging from very thin metal to heavy/thick materials requiring multiple welding passes
  • Experience welding dissimilar metals and achieving complete penetration and/or fusion
• Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders
  • Ability to produce welds that meet required strength, shape, dimensional, penetration, and finish specifications
  • Ability to work with limited in-process supervision and maintain quality standards independently
• Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of accepted welding trade practices and techniques
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication, pipefitting, repair, modification, and assembly processes
  • Ability to work with a wide range of metal types, sizes, shapes, and thicknesses
  • Knowledge of welding inspection and quality-control requirements.
  • Ability to work safely around heat, sparks, fumes, electrical equipment, pressurized systems, and other industrial hazards
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality workmanship
  • Ability to work effectively with other trades and technical personnel
• Physical Requirements
  • This position requires substantial physical activity, including:
    • Standing and walking for extended periods
    • Stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling
    • Working in awkward, confined, and difficult-to-access positions
    • Working at heights of up to 100 feet, when required
    • Handling objects weighing approximately 20-50 pounds and occasionally objects exceeding 50 pounds
    • Performing welding and fabrication work in physically demanding environments
    • Wearing required protective clothing, gloves, eye protection, face shields, respirators, and other PPE
• Work may be performed indoors and outdoors and may include exposure to varying environmental conditions. Work areas may range from controlled or clean environments to noisy, dirty, smoky, and industrial areas
• The position may involve exposure to welding fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, heat, flying sparks, torch glare, heated materials, electrical hazards, burns, cuts, and other industrial hazards. Appropriate PPE and established safety procedures must be followed at all times
• Other Requirements
  • May be required to work overtime, including evenings, weekends, holidays, or emergency call-back assignments
  • May be assigned to work at locations other than the employee's primary assigned location

Position Pay Range

$31 - $36 USD
