Job summary

Hamilton Miller & Birthisel is seeking a Georgia-barred attorney to independently manage litigated commercial general liability defense matters with limited oversight from the managing partner. You will own case strategy, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, client communications, and participation in business development initiatives within Georgia state courts.

This role requires handling a high volume of active cases, conducting and attending in-person depositions and site

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school required.
• Active membership in the Georgia Bar in good standing required.
• 2–5 years of experience in commercial general liability matters required.
• Trial experience is required.
• Significant experience taking and defending expert depositions required.

Responsibilities

• Manage a full caseload of commercial general liability matters from inception through resolution.
• Handle all aspects of litigation including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, and trial preparation.
• Draft and argue dispositive and substantive motions, including motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, and motions in limine.
• Conduct and defend depositions of plaintiffs, fact witnesses, corporate representatives, and expert witnesses.
• Prepare cases for trial, including witness preparation, exhibit coordination, trial briefs, and evidentiary strategy.
• Participate in mediations, settlement negotiations, and settlement conferences.
• Conduct site inspections and attend in-person hearings and depositions as required.
• Collaborate with partners, associates, paralegals, and support staff to ensure cases progress efficiently and strategically.
• Ensure compliance with court rules, deadlines, and case management orders.

Summary

We are seeking a Georgia barred Attorney that will be responsible for independently managing litigated commercial general liability defense matters with limited oversight from the managing partner of the book of business. The attorney will maintain full ownership of case strategy, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, client communications, and participation in business development initiatives within Georgia state courts. The position requires managing a high volume of active cases, conducting and attending in-person depositions and site inspections, and serving as first chair at trial when matters proceed to litigation. The ideal candidate will have a strong trial mindset, with the ability to handle matters efficiently and decisively. Experience in Negligent Security, Trucking, and Premises Liability matters is highly preferred, and candidates with demonstrated exposure to these practice areas will be strongly considered.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. However, the individual may provide indirect guidance or task coordination to legal assistants, clerical staff, or interns in connection with case preparation and defense-related activities.
