Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Florida Driver's License.
• Department of Transportation Medical Certificate.
• Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement.
• Six (6) months of experience operating large motor vehicle equipment, including trucks or buses.
• No more than seven points on driver’s license; certain infractions may disqualify per management discretion.

Responsibilities

• Operates buses, cars, and other assigned vehicles per Florida requirements and safety standards.
• Safely transports patients, staff, visitors, and materials using equipment like handicapped lift gates and towing systems when required.
• Conducts pre-shift vehicle inspections and reports safety concerns or maintenance needs.
• Maintains a strong focus on safety, accident prevention, and passenger protection.
• Completes transportation tasks with urgency and punctuality at shift start.
• Manages time and vehicle usage to conserve resources.
• Maintains assigned vehicles through proper operation, care, and reporting.
• Responds to emergencies and changing conditions, ensuring health and safety.
• Communicates with supervisors, dispatch, passengers, and team members to coordinate services.
• Supports departmental goals through professionalism, reliability, and adherence to procedures.

Description

The Commercial Driver Shuttle safely transports employees, patients, visitors, students, and physicians between Tampa General Hospital and designated remote parking locations and facilities. This role operates a variety of shuttle vehicles while supporting routine operations and special event transportation needs in a high-volume healthcare environment. The Commercial Driver Shuttle performs duties in alignment with hospital safety standards, regulatory requirements, and the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

What you will do

• Operates buses, cars, and other assigned vehicles in accordance with Florida commercial driving requirements and safety standards.
• Safely transports patients, staff, visitors, and materials while utilizing specialized equipment such as handicapped lift gates and towing systems as required.
• Conducts pre-shift vehicle inspections to identify safety concerns, maintenance needs, or potential breakdown risks and reports findings promptly.
• Maintains a strong focus on safety, accident prevention, and protection of passengers, vehicles, and property.
• Completes assigned transportation tasks with urgency while maintaining punctuality and readiness at the start of each shift.
• Manages time and vehicle usage efficiently to conserve resources and support operational needs.
• Maintains assigned vehicles through proper operation, care, and reporting to minimize damage and service disruptions.
• Responds appropriately to emergency situations and changing conditions while ensuring public health and safety.
• Communicates effectively with supervisors, dispatch, passengers, and team members to coordinate transportation services.
• Supports departmental goals through professionalism, reliability, and adherence to established procedures and standards.
