HANAC, Inc. in Astoria, NY is seeking a transportation driver to provide safe, reliable rides for older adults to senior centers, grocery stores, and events. You will operate a company van, assist clients in and out, and follow schedule.

This hourly, non-exempt role requires a valid NYS CDL with Passenger Endorsements, DOT medical certification, English literacy, and basic computer skills. Bilingual Spanish or Greek is a plus. Mon-Fri 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Qualifications

• Valid NYS CDL with Passenger Endorsements and 1+ year driving experience.
• Commercial driving experience preferred.
• DOT medical certificate with yearly drug testing.
• Ability to read, write and speak in English.
• Computer literacy (Office, Adobe, Google workspace).
• Bilingual in Spanish or Greek is desirable but not required.

Responsabilités

• Safely transport elderly clients in company van to and from senior centers as scheduled.
• Assist clients into and out of the van, when necessary, and determine that need.
• Ensure safety of clients on board by seatbelts and other safety devices.
• Legibly complete passenger log daily.
• Collect participants’ contributions daily.
• Deliver food to various senior centers when needed.
• Make trips to bank, post office, etc. as assigned.
• Assist driver’s supervisor in scheduling routes.
• Any additional tasks assigned by the program director.

Job Summary

Provides transportation to older adults for individual and group rides to senior centers, grocery shopping, stores, museums, community centers, and social events and gatherings.

Essential duties may include but are not limited to:

• Safely transport elderly clients in company van to and from senior centers as scheduled
• Assist clients into and out of the van, when necessary, and be able to determine that need
• Ensure safety of clients on board by requiring use of seatbelts, wheelchair brackets, and other safety devices
• Legibly complete passenger log on a daily basis;
• Collect participants’ contributions on a daily basis;
• Deliver food to various senior centers when needed;
• Make trips to the bank, post office, and etc. as assigned;
• Assist driver's supervisor in scheduling routes;
• Any additional tasks required and/or assigned by the program director

Vehicle Maintenance:

• Maintain vehicle in clean and operating condition
• Inspect vehicle daily and report any operational or structural defects to supervisor
• Sanitize the bus after every individual and group ride
• Oversee routine maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of vehicle (fuel, oil changes, tires, etc.)
• Maintain gasoline and mileage records daily
• Organize vehicle repair log in maintenance books
• Pick up vehicle and return it to the garage at the end of the day
• Any additional tasks that may be required

Qualifications:

• Valid NYS Commercial Drivers License with Passenger Endorsements and 1+ years of driving experience.
• Commercial driving experience preferred.
• Drivers must maintain Department of Transportation medical certificate with yearly drug testing.
• Ability to read, write and speak in English,
• Must be able to use computer (Office, Adobe, Google workspace), and office equipment
• Bilingual in Spanish or Greek is desirable but not required
