Job summary

HANAC, Inc. in Astoria, NY is seeking a Commercial Driver to provide transportation for older adults to senior centers, groceries, and community events. The role requires safe operation of a company van and assisting passengers as needed.

Responsibilities include logging trips, collecting daily contributions, delivering food to senior centers, and assisting the supervisor with route scheduling. Valid NYS CDL with Passenger Endorsements and DOT medical certificate are required.

Qualifications

• Valid NYS Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsements and 1+ years of driving experience.
• Commercial driving experience preferred.
• DOT medical certificate with yearly drug testing.
• Ability to read, write and speak in English.
• Must be able to use computer (Office, Adobe, Google workspace), and office equipment.
• Bilingual in Spanish or Greek is desirable but not required.

Job Summary

Provides transportation to older adults for individual and group rides to senior centers, grocery shopping, stores, museums, community centers, and social events and gatherings.

Essential duties may include but are not limited to:

• Safely transport elderly clients in company van to and from senior centers as scheduled.
• Assist clients into and out of the van, when necessary, and be able to determine that need.
• Ensure safety of clients on board by requiring use of seatbelts, wheelchair brackets, and other safety devices.
• Legibly complete passenger log on a daily basis;

Vehicle Maintenance

• Maintain vehicle in clean and operating condition.
• Inspect vehicle daily and report any operational or structural defects to supervisor.
• Sanitize the bus after every individual and group ride.
• Oversee routine maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of vehicle (fuel, oil changes, tires, etc.).
• Maintain gasoline and mileage records daily.
• Organize vehicle repair log in maintenance books.
• Pick up vehicle and return it to the garage at the end of the day.
• Any additional tasks that may be required.

Qualifications
