Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a dedicated Commercial Driver to support warehouse and transportation operations in Flint, MI. The role involves moving trailers, loading/unloading, and delivering goods with a focus on safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Forklift experience and certification.
  • Current CDL Class A license.
  • 1+ years’ experience as a warehouse operator preferred.
  • No preventable motor vehicle violations within last 12 months
  • Current medical certification card.
  • 1+ years’ experience driving a tractor trailer.
  • General fluency in English required, verbal and written
  • Basic computer literacy preferred
  • Willingness to communicate via 2-way radio
  • Ability and willingness to follow strict safety procedures (DOT/OSHA)

Responsibilities

  • Transfer materials, unload, process, and store items.
  • Move outgoing products using hand trucks, forklifts, or other equipment to loading dock.
  • Perform Commercial Driver duties when necessary.
  • Receive, sort and place incoming products in warehouse locations.
  • Record amounts shipped/received in Victory system.
  • Mark materials with Victory inventory codes.
  • Keep the warehouse clean and safe.
  • Sweep, mop, and perform routine maintenance.
  • Safely operate tractor and trailer for deliveries.
  • Perform vehicle inspections as required.
  • Use mobile apps for ELD and proof of delivery.
  • Provide outstanding customer service during delivery.
  • Follow all safety rules for equipment and material handling (DOT/OSHA).
  • Communicate with operations staff about customer concerns.
  • Utilize hand trucks and other equipment as needed.

The Opportunity

The Commercial Driver is responsible for operating a switch truck to safely and efficiently move tractor-trailers throughout the yard. This role involves loading, unloading, and transporting trailers between docks, staging areas, and designated yard locations while ensuring compliance with all safety procedures and operational requirements. The Commercial Driver plays a critical role in supporting efficient warehouse and transportation operations by maintaining the timely flow of trailers and freight.

Shift: Mon-Fri, Day Hours

Pay Rate: $27-29/hour, Dependent on Experience

How You Will Impact Packaging Solutions Smurfit Westrock
  • Primarily assist with warehouse operator duties and responsibilities by transferring materials, unloading, processing, loading and storage areas.
  • Move outgoing products using hand trucks, forklifts, or other material handling equipment, in accordance with all safety policies, to loading dock.
  • Perform Commercial Driver duties when necessary
  • Receive, sort and place incoming products in appropriate warehouse location.
  • Record amounts of material shipped or received in Victory computer system.
  • Mark materials and product with Victory inventory codes.
  • Always organize the warehouse for cleanliness and safety.
  • Sweep, mop and perform other routine maintenance.
  • Safely operates tractor and trailer for the delivery of products and materials.
  • Perform vehicle inspections as required.
  • Operate mobile apps on phone for ELD and proof of delivery.
  • Provide outstanding customer service during delivery.
  • Follow all safety rules for equipment and material handling as required by DOT, OSHA and Company safety program.
  • Ensure all orders are delivered in good condition and in full as per the bill of lading.
  • Communicate effectively with operations staff about customer concerns.
  • Utilize material handling equipment, such hand trucks.
What You Need To Succeed
  • Forklift experience and certification
  • Current CDL Class A license
  • One or more years’ experience as a warehouse operator preferred.
  • No preventable motor vehicle violations within last 12 months
  • Current medical certification card.
  • One or more years’ experience driving a tractor trailer.
  • General fluency in English required, verbal and written
  • Occasionally may be required to fuel offsite
  • Basic computer literacy preferred
  • The ability and willingness to communicate via 2-way radio.
  • Ability and willingness to follow strict safety procedures, including manually chocking wheels, locking out trailers, and properly positioning trailer jack stands.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • The ability to enter and exit a semi repeatably during your shift to hook and unhook gladhands repeatably.
