Job summary

The AmLaw 100 firm in Charlotte, NC is seeking a mid-level Associate Attorney for its Business & Commercial Disputes Practice Group. You will handle complex commercial disputes, liaise with clients, and participate in strategy development on lean teams to gain meaningful courtroom exposure.

Ideal candidates hold a JD from a top-tier law school with NC Bar admission, 3–5 years of relevant experience, and a proven track record in litigation, discovery, and motions. Hybrid work model offered.

Qualifications

• JD from a top-tier law school with excellent academic record.
• Active North Carolina Bar admission in good standing (or ability to be admitted promptly).
• 3–5 years of substantive experience in commercial litigation.
• Experience managing complex business disputes at a sophisticated law firm.
• Experience drafting dispositive and non-dispositive motions.
• Capable in managing all phases of discovery, including e-discovery.
• Restructuring, insolvency, or bankruptcy litigation experience is a plus.
• Superior analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
• Exceptional written and oral advocacy skills.
• Client-service mindset with ability to manage client relationships.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Handle substantive work on complex commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts.
• Draft and argue dispositive and non-dispositive motions.
• Manage discovery, including written discovery, document production, e-discovery coordination, and related motions.
• Prepare for and conduct depositions of fact and expert witnesses.
• Support trial preparation, including witness preparation, exhibit management, and pretrial filings.
• Analyze litigation risks, dispute exposure, and business implications to develop practical legal solutions.
• Communicate directly with clients, including in-house counsel and business stakeholders.
• Collaborate with partners, associates, staff, and cross-office teams to provide exceptional client service.
• Contribute to case strategy development and execution throughout all stages of litigation.
