Commercial Credit Senior Portfolio Manager I, Open to location

Overview

Monitor and assess the credit risks of larger, more complex commercial loan portfolios and higher dollar loans through detailed financial statement analysis, industry assessment, collateral valuation, cash flow analysis, and the ability to repay annual debt service.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the ongoing credit risk of existing loan portfolios through continuous credit monitoring activities, enabling the timely identification of emerging credit risks and appropriate actions to manage risk, minimize losses, and assign accurate risk ratings. Activities include annual reviews, interim updates, covenant monitoring, problem loan management, early warning indicators, and other credit surveillance.
  • Review all pertinent credit and financial information, including financial statements, tax returns, due diligence reports, credit bureaus, appraisals, internal credit data, industry research, and peer data. Determine the need for further investigation or additional information.
  • Analyze financial information and related materials to complete ongoing credit monitoring for the bank’s commercial transactions, assessing risks, identifying emerging risks or material changes, and evaluating compliance with loan agreements.
  • Liaise between Commercial Banking Relationship Managers and the Underwriting Team to facilitate credit needs, document and track relevant information, reports, and memos to ensure proper credit approvals and maintain timely risk ratings.
  • Spread financial statements and prepare financial models to assess various conditions impacting transactions, including cash flow, collateral schedules, covenant sensitivity, and guarantor analysis.
  • Monitor credit performance of customer portfolios and escalate or remediate issues as needed.
  • Ensure the timeliness of monitoring activities and compliance with credit policies, verifying adherence and evaluating risks associated with non-compliance.
  • Present analysis and address questions during credit discussions or presentations.
  • Attend client calls with RMs to understand client/business better for reviews, renewals, and monitoring.
  • Adhere to compliance and operational risk controls per standards and policies.
  • Promote an environment of belonging and reflect the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain internal control standards, including timely implementation of audit points and regulatory issues.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Scope

The department oversees the ongoing monitoring of the bank’s commercial loans, typically interacting with portfolios of $30MM+ and working independently with limited supervision. Potential for client interaction.

Management Responsibilities

Contribute to the training of junior Portfolio Managers.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field with 5 years' experience in commercial credit, accounting, or financial analysis, or a total of 9 years of higher education and work experience including at least 5 years in relevant roles. Excellent communication and analytical skills are required.

Compensation and Location

Pay range: $93,614.36 - $156,023.93 USD. Location: Baltimore, Maryland.
