Job summary

M&T Bank in Buffalo, New York is seeking a Commercial Credit Analyst to support underwriting and ongoing monitoring of a portfolio of credit relationships. You will perform supporting analysis, identify risk issues, and prepare sections of credit analyses.

Collaborate with relationship managers, develop cash flow models, spreads, and risk ratings, and ensure compliance with Credit Policy. Strong analytical and communication skills required; experience with financial statement analysis a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field.
• Minimum of one year’s work experience in commercial credit, public accounting, financial statement analysis, or related financial analysis; or a combined 5 years of higher education and/or work experience including credit work.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical ability with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate credit needs by analyzing new requests from deal screen through approval and life of loan.
• Manage ongoing credit risk through CCM activities including annual reviews and covenant monitoring.
• Review financial statements, tax returns, and related data to determine need for further investigation.
• Analyze financial information and prepare credit analyses with risk rating, risks, mitigants, and market trends.
• Propose structure recommendations based on scenarios including base and downside cases.
• Collaborate with relationship managers throughout the credit process to maintain accurate risk ratings.
• Spread financials and model cash flows, collateral, covenants, and guarantor analysis.
• Enter data into bank systems and participate in client/prospect calls and committee discussions.
• Ensure compliance with Commercial Credit Policy and regulatory standards.
